Babies: 9 - 12 Months

MSPI moms come in please

Did your LO's outgrow their cows milk intolerance by 12 months? Did you just go ahead and introduce milk at 12 months?   I'm anxious about introducing dairy products to my LO as theres no way to know if its still going to hurt his tummy or not.  But I want so badly for him to be able to eat yogurt and cheese (hoping it will help him gain weight too).  We are waiting till his 12 month check up for the doc to give the go ahead to try.

  • I'm nervous about it too. We were told around 11 months to give him a tbsp or so of yogurt a day for a week mixed in with fruit or oatmeal and see how he does. If ok, the next week introduce cottage cheese, cream cheese. If still ok, give him cheese the following week. If he's still ok then we can introduce whole milk. We will try soy after we see how dairy goes. His GI nurse said soy can be constipating and since he had issues in that area anyway we will rule out one thing at a time.

  • My guy is 1 year today. I gave him something with baked in soy and dairy separately and he bled. The allergist wants me to breastfeed him without dairy and soy until he's 2.

Most outgrow it. Especially when it's cooked or processed, such as cheese and yogurt. However, a small amount don't. I'm hoping my guy just takes a little longer. The allergist said one of her sons an adult is fairly severe but sometimes can eat cheese on pizza.
  • I EBF LO and at out 9 month apt the pedi suggested I re-introduce dairy to my diet.  We have been watching LO and so far she seems to be fine.  Since she is handling dairy in my BM the pedi suggested we try to introduce yogurt at 11 months.  If she does OK with the yogurt we will try cheese/milk at 12 months.  I am really nervous but the pedi said a large percentage of MSPI babies do not develop an allergy.
  • 90% of kids will outgrow food allergies by their fifth birthday.  We will not be trying until after 2 as they are better able to communicate at that time.

Thanks everyone!  Glad I'm not alone.  Forgot to mention my husband is lactose intolerant- eek!  Hope LO is not.  I LOVE milk

  • We were really never confirmed as MSPI, but switched to Zantac and Alimentum at the same time. Don't know which worked, but he was a different baby after.

He has his 9 month visit on Friday and I'm hoping to get the go ahead to try cheese and yogurt.

  • My lo is almost a yr old, bf and I've started to eat dairy again but it seems to be making her spit up again: she is on nexium still too and seems like she still needs it. I have no idea how/when to wean her when it's such a part of our routine and she can't even have milk yet?

unless you want to wean her I would hold off until two as it makes easier to make sure they are getting enough calcium, etc while still nursing.
