When I dropped DS2 off at his in home daycare, I was informed that they got a violation after a surprise inspection. The safety latch on a drawer (containing various cooking utensils, including knives) in the kitchen was broken, and we had to sign a sheet saying we aware of the violation. Both of my boys have been going to this lady since they were 3 months old and this is the first violation. In fact, she said this is that this is her first violation EVER. She has done a great job with both of my boys, and DS2 loves going there. (DS1 is now in preschool.) But, she seemed to brush this off as NBD. Granted, a number of safety latches on the drawers in my kitchen are also broken, so at first I was like "Uh, whatever. As long as it's fixed." (I asked to see the drawer and it was, in fact, fixed.) But, would this violation bother you?
Re: "Small" In home daycare violation
No, this wouldn't. At my DCP, the kids are contained in certain areas w/ gates, etc. They are only upstairs in the kitchen area when she's up there - and even then, they are usually in the living room.
And even though there is always a chance - I just know it's SUCH a small chance that any one of those kids would actually go into that drawer. It's not something I'd worry too much about.

This is the way I look at the situation as well. I know she didn't have a choice in being upfront with you about it since you had to sign something, but I do like that she was willing to show you the issue was fixed. It sounds like she has a good track record with no violations so I wouldn't worry about this.

This is kind of what I thought too. But, I just wanted to double check that I was being rational. Thanks for the input, ladies!
Nope, wouldn't bother me. I like the honesty the DCP is taking and I'm sure she jumped on fixing the issue immediately.
FWIW-I don't have child locks on any cabinets and drawers (including those with knives).
No, it wouldn't bother me at all. I have no drawer locks in my kitchen.
No, especially since she fixed it right away. Maybe you think this is terrible, but I don't have safety locks on my knife drawer at home...
Ha! No, I don't think this is terrible. In fact, as I said in my OP I have a number of safety locks in my kitchen (knife drawer included) that are also broken, and have been broken for quite a while. (I have asked DH to fix them numerous times, but he has yet to do so.)
Anyway, my original thought when so told me was "Eh, I'm guilty of the same thing." I just wanted to make sure that my thoughts were OK. Then I thought, since she runs a daycare, she should make sure these things are taken care of. I am glad that she is licensed and has inspections that catch things like this and that she fixed it right away. All of the responses have validated my thoughts, and put my mind at ease. Thank you!
