WWYD: Neuro

Owl had an appt with her neuro last week, I don't know if he was having a bad day but by the end of our appt I was determined to find a new neuro.

First, our appt was at 3:00, we waited in a room for an hour and a half before he saw us, I was annoyed at having to wait so long.

Second, we got Owl's CP dx from the Ortho in March, I told the neuro and he exclaimed "Well, we already knew that!"...  Um, no we didn't, at least I was never told that.

Third, I feel like all he wants to do is see her so he can get paid for the visit, he doesn't do anything but write rx's for ST.

We were referred to this neuro through an early intervention program (not RC) because the wait at the CH was over a year, his practice has been open for less than a year and he doesn't seem like he really knows what he's doing. I have no idea what to expect from a neuro because this guy leaves me wondering what a neuro really does.

I'm going to get in touch with the CH to see where we are on the neuro waiting list but what do I do in the meantime? Is this guy a quack?

Re: WWYD: Neuro

  • If your mommy gut is telling you that this guy isn't the right neuro for you, I'd trust it and look elsewhere.  I will say long waits for specialists are, unfortunately, not atypical.  We have some specialists that are better about it than others, though.

Since the wait is so long for a different neuro, I would continue seeing this guy in the meantime, but definitely make your concerns known.  Come in armed with a list of questions.

Also, while you're waiting for the new neuro, I would make sure to call in weekly and see if there are any cancellations. We've done this before and managed to get in at least a little earlier.

    Good luck!

  • DS2 (3.5 with CP) sees a neuro also. Outside of yearly exams the neuro does Botox injections. That is it.  Botox right now is every 3-4mos so I give him the low down of what is/has been going, ask any questions I have, etc. during those appointments.  He also looks at how DS2 walks (HHA and walker).  We saw the original neuro twice before moving out of state/into a different insurance region. That neuro was the diagnosing physician (I'm surprised your neuro didn't tell you they diagnosed Owl with CP) and ordered/reviewed the MRI. The second appt with him was a basic follow up.

May I ask, what is it that you are/were expecting the neuro to do?  I ask out of curiosity but also to see if our neuro should be doing anything else should others respond.
