October 2011 Moms

And my kids are out to age me.

A couple of days ago DS got out of the house and went for a walk with the dog.  A neighbour saw him go and brought him home before he got hurt.  He had been playing in the kitchen while DH did dishes and somehow he managed to get the sliding door open and went outside unnoticed.  He wasn't gone long enough for DH to even realize that it was a little too quiet where DS had been playing because the neighbour saw him leave and only waited a few seconds to see if a parent was following before she decided that DS was on his own.  THank god she had been watching.  Scared the sh!t out of me.  Saturday was spent making sure that, that could never happen again.

Spent last night in the emergency room with DD because she was practicing dance in the living room and tripped and cracked her head on the only sharp baseboard corner in the whole effing house.  Being a head wound there was a ton of blood for a not very big cut but still needed to take her to the hospital to get them to close it up.  Glue only and not stitches thankfully.   But it being the Sunday of a long weekend here it was of course very busy and we were there for 4 hours.

I am glad both your kids are ok. I am waiting for the day when DD gets out of the house. She already likes to turn the lock, but can't quite get it open yet. I am glad your DS is ok and that you have good neighbors. Your poor DD, i am glad she didn't have to get stitches. Sounds like you had quite a weekend!

  • DD has walked out the front door before. We were playing out front and had come inside. I was putting a few things away in the garage and came back in to find the front door open and DD on the patio. Scared the bejeezus out of me.

Unfortunately, our neighbors would probably watch her walk all the way down the street before thinking to come over and get me or to go get her and bring her back. They are real winners.

  • Holy $hit that's scary! I don't look forward to the day that happens to us. E is obsessed with "asside" (aka outside). She'd definitely make a run for it if she ever saw an opportunity.

  • My friend has a son who is a autistic(low functioning)  she put locks slide locks on the top of all the doors.  Sometimes people would forget to slide the lock so she had bells on all the doors too.  Child proofing for a toddler is hard but, I can't even imagine for a 14 year old.

  • LBB runs out our front door every chance he gets.  I don't know what we're going to do when he gets tall enough to figure out the top deadbolt.  That's the only thing that keeps him inside right now.
