This only happens about 1 in 6 feeding a or so so I am waiting for tomorrow to call the pediatrician when he is in his office. But until then, maybe some of your babies have had this problem.
My baby is 3 weeks old and is now formula fed. Immediately after starting to eat, my baby will cry and arch his back and act very mad and the second you take it out of his mouth he is fine and wants to eat again. Put it back in his mouth and it starts all over again. I know many of you will suggest he has acid reflux but he has literally only spit up once since he's been born and he is never fussy. He only ever cries when he's hungry or getting a bath ?? lol I've read that acid reflux babies cry during and after feelings but he is only mad while the nipple is in his mouth. I was thinking maybe he wants a faster flow but most of the time milk is spilling out of his mouth a tiny bit so I didn't think that was it. He is using the newborn, slow flow nipple so I don't think it's too fast. He also acts like he's starving when this whole thing happens. My guess is it isn't gas either because whatever this is, only bothers his while he's sucking on the bottle. We also burp him after every oz, just in case it is gas. Doesn't seem to help.
Like I said, this doesn't happen every feeding. Any suggestions or anyone else with this problem??
Re: Crying/Mad while eating
We are having this problem as well.
LO was tongue tied and we can't breastfeed at this time. When we give him the bottle if the flow is not perfect and he is in an upright position, he will freak out. Try the Dr. Brown's preemie nipple (arching back is a sign that he is trying to get away from what you are doing/is upset). I bet the flow is too fast for him. Also, try only filling the nipple up half way with formula/milk.
We have also put LO in a boppy and fed him and that seems to work. We have had almost 48 hours of feedings without a freakout. You'll figure it out.
Also, LO is on zantac for his reflux and it is helping him.
My LO did this about every 1/5 feedings, too. It was such a pain when it happened! I know what you are going through. I found that if I walked around while I fed her during those times, she seemed to be much more at ease. I literally had to walk around the house and change the scenery for her the whole feeding.
She is 5 months old now, and she does it less often now. The walking trick still works for her though.
