Average daytime sleep

How many hours would you say your LO sleeps during the day? Right now, my LO is the worst napper. She usually only naps about 45 minutes or so during the day. I might get on hour and a half nap out if her once a day. So she probably sleeps an average of 4 hours during the day. She does about 910 hours at night. Lately she's fighting her last nap of the day in the early evening. She ends up being awake for like 4 hours before bedtime! One night she was awake for 6!!

Anyone else have a troubled day sleeper? Is this normal?

  • Ugh I do. He naps maybe a total of 45 minutes the entire day. Sleeps great at night. But rarely naps. I don't have a clue how to get him to sleep without him falling asleep while nursing and waking when I move him. I'm exhausted and so is he.

  • I imagine this is common at the 2 month age. From what I've read, babies sleep in cycles that are shorter than children or adults. These cycles typically last 45 minutes, with a light sleep cycle followed by a deep sleep cycle. When they move to the next sleep cycle, they move into that light sleep and many babies will wake up during this transition. Part of it is they don't know how to move to that next cycle, and part of it is that they really are lightly sleeping so anything will wake then up. A slightly hungry tummy, possible wet diaper, gas, etc will all prevent baby from moving to that next cycle. I think these babies just are a little more sensitive than the babies who appear to nap for hours on end past the first few weeks

My LO always wakes up past after the first cycle. I might get one nap every other day where she manages to move to the next cycle with minimal interruption but she usually takes 5 naps a day, 4 about 45 minutes to a hour and one I really push for 90 minutes....I'll hold her after that first cycle or she'll work through it . Probabley for a total of 45 hours with 10 to 11 hours at night...which is normal!

  • Ella is 6 weeks today sleeps 2 to 3 hours around the clock except when her colic time is going on and she is up 3 to four hours
  • My LO has recently gotten a lot better sleeping at night, but seems to have more trouble napping during the day. She's been having a hard time getting into a deep sleep and staying there. If I hold her and put her down, she'll wake up. Or she'll wake up easily to loud sounds around the house. Strangely, though, today we took her out to a diner that was quite noisy, and she fell asleep moments after we got there and stayed asleep until about an hour after we got home. Nice for us, but surprising, as if the louder it is, the better for her to fall asleep.

  • Misery loves company :.DS will be 7 weeks I had a geat day time sleeper until about 4 days ago. Now he won't nap for more than 30 min at a time and I feel like I am spending my entire day either feeding him or trying to put him to sleep. He will sleep soundly on me, but as soon as I put him in the crib, swing or bouncy seat and he is up within 20 min. I am worn out by the end of the day as well. I don't rememner going through this with my first, so I am at a loss as to how to help him sleep better
  • My little guy's napping is so variable from day to day. We have some days that he is a great napper and will have several really long (2 hour or so) naps. Then we have some days when he will not nap for more than 30 minutes at a time. I guess it is because he is growing and learning so quickly right now that every day is going to be a bit different with him. He sleeps about 10 to 11 hours total at night and maybe 3 to 5 hours during the day, depending on the day. In the evening he is usually awake the longest and then gets really fussy before falling asleep. It is very normal.

I have read naps usually regulate and become more regular around 3 to 4 months of age, so I am crossing my fingers for that.
