Do I tell I'm pregnant while job searching?

Hi from a lurker and rare poster...

I recently moved from Seattle to San Francisco.  I am looking for a new job.  I am pregnant, almost 12 weeks.  Should I tell perspective employers at the interview?  If so how would I say that?

I'm also toying with the idea of finding a temp job for 4-5 months and then taking a longer maternity leave.

Thanks for the help.

  • No. Not this early. When women are very visibly pregnant, I think it's pointless to ignore the elephant in the room. But at 12 weeks? No.

  • Nope!!

No personal information during interviews, ever, in my opinion.

You'd be better off telling them when they give you an offer.

No, do not bring it up.  Even if you are visibly pregnant, do not make it an issue at the interview.  Wait until you get an offer and then disclose for the purpose of negotiating leave.
  • No you are not legally obligated to tell them at the interview. I would not say anything. I started a new job while pregnant and didn't mention it until a couple of weeks after I got hired.
