Outdoor toy recs

We have a fairly large backyard and I need to get DS#1 some toys to play with. I get tired of having to walk all the way to the park, and then I have to wear DS#2. What do your kids like to play with? Note: it's all grass, so he can't play with riding toys/cars

Re: Outdoor toy recs

  • We just have a small slide and a water table for now. I'm still looking for a climbing toy.

  • Right now Asher loves his water table. I put him in a swim shirt and swim diaper and let him go to town. He also loves any ball he can throw around and those over-sized bouncy balls. We like to finger paint on big pieces of paper too, which my older kids love as well.

  • Sand table (or water).  A few different balls. DD likes to climb on / off our patio chairs.  I just bought her a little wheelbarrow set at Costco today.  We don't have any climbing toys yet.
  • We just got a push mower with bubbles from BBBaby for about $15 & he loves it.
  • Sandbox and chalk at super popular. I'm glad I went for the sandbox over a water table as we go use it every morning first thing after breakfast and its nice not to have to deal with getting wet every morning. But it's cold here in the mornings, might be different if you live somewhere hot.
  • Water table is great.  We take her little people out and she plays with them in it even when it is not filled with water.

  • we're buying our girls a play house for the yard. So far we have a little pool, water table, bubbles, and I'd loooove to buy a swing set this summer too.

  • I watch craigslist and have a big play cabin, 2 toddler slides (one with a baby swing thing), 2 plastic art easels, a large play structure with a real baby swing, kids swing, and glider a tall platform and a swirly slide coming off it and a kids table for mud pies and painting.  And there is also a blow up kiddie pool and a sand box w/ a lid.  I also have an adult covered swing for me to chill in.

I got all but the adult covered swing on CL for cheap.  The play structure was $250 and my DH stained and replaced boards so it's like new (about $1k new) the easels for $10-15 each, the toddler stuff for $15-20 each and the play cabin free.  I host play dates in my back yard a LOT.  I find going to the actual playground too difficult right now.

Having a 3 1/2 year old a 15m and another due in 5 weeks now I needed my own play ground!
