So we've just recently decided to PT DS. He's showing all the signs and lots of interest in it. In the last couple of days he's started holding his diaper and telling us he's about to pee or poop, so we sit him on the potty and he goes. So we've decided to jump right into it and give it a shot. We let him pick out big boy underwear, we got some M&M's for rewards. I guess my biggest question is, is it easier for them to learn to pee sitting down or standing up? If we try it standing up, he just stands there completely confused and gets distracted after like 2 seconds. He's much more likely to go sitting down on the little potty, but then his pee shoots out on to the floor. We have a ring that sits on the big potty, and he does do well with that (and when sitting the pee actually goes where it's supposed to go) but we're not always near a bathroom. It's much easier just to move the little potty into whatever room we're in so he can sit on it at a seconds notice. Advice? How did you PT your little boy?
ETA: Also, my ticker needs to be updated. He's about 2 1/2 now.
Re: Moms of boys: potty training help
This is exactly what we did. We started training sitting. Once he was confident, he came to me and said, "I want to pee like a man." Dh handled it from there.

We have a potty in the living room and in his bedroom, plus a potty ring in his bathroom. He's much more comfortable using the little potty seats and we are having him sit. I think my nephew was about 3.5 or 4 when he started peeing standing up. We're not having any problem with pee going anywhere except where it's supposed to and he doesn't need to hold his penis down or anything.
We use a little potty - the Bjorn one. I like it because the splash guard is high enough so that it helps keep the pee from spraying out. We're only just starting so he still only goes on it sporadically, though. He wouldn't be able to reach the regular toilet standing up without a stool yet and I feel like that would be a great mess right now with him.
