picky baby

LO will not take a bottle... we have tried so many different nipples to no avail. Occasionally, she will take one for a feeding, but 90% of the time it's a no go. She breastfeeds like a champ, but even a bottle with breastmilk is impossible. My mom tried to give her a bottle while we were out, so it's not like she knew I was around and she only took an ounce and my mom said even that was difficult.

Has anyone dealt with a similar problem? Did you find anything that helped the transition? I need to get her taking a bottle really soon. I have one week left on my leave and while I'm only going back part-time at first, she'll still need to take a bottle from the sitter. Any advice? HELP!?!

  • Lurking from third tri. Have the giver hold the bottle between their body and arm so that baby is in a more fimiliar position. Also, do you cover up often when bf? I watched a child and when he was very young and still mostly bf only took a bottle from me after I put a cover over him. It worked very well after about an hour of hin crying hungry.

    Good luck.

I haven't but I googled it and read that some others had success. Getting some ASAP! Hope they work better!

  • Have you tried a bottke 2 feeindings in a row if she refuses the 1st one? When I left dd with my mom the 1st time she refused the 1st bottle, vut by the 2nd one she was hungry enough to take it when she realized that was her only choice :.

Both my kids have only taken to the latex nipples at first as newbs.  Pacis included (neither were big into the pacis but the ones they do take are latex early on).  Once DS was a little older, I switched him to the tommee tippee bottles and he liked them.  Hoping DD will do the same.  GL!

  • Well, the latex nipple is still a no go. Ugh. I'll bring it up with the pedi this week at her 8 week appt.

  • I think we might have a winner! A friend of mine gave me some evenflo glass bottles and the nipple on them is much smaller than the others we've tried. She's taken it twice today now (like a pro, I might add). Gonna try it one more time to see if it's a sure thing. :) Fingers crossed!
