I don't know where my little one's dad will be when she is born. He travels the country for work. How can I get him to sign the birth certificate if he isn't around?
In Illinois there is a paper you both sign to say her is the father. it's called a Voluntary Paternity acknowledgment I think. However if he is not available you can take the form with you and fill it out later (per the child support website) also you can print it from their site so maybe he could sign it in advance.
This is all presuming you are not married or were not married to him at the time of conception. If you were he is the presumed father. So i guess just bring a copy of the marriage/divorce certificates.

At least that's how it is in the Land of Lincoln.
