I just joined a group. They meet every other month for mommies night out. A few of the moms with older children mentioned how they use to do play dates and more formal meetings and they want to get back to it. So well see.
I was in one and didn't enjoy it. They had monthly meetings, but it seemed very clique and I never really "met" anyone so I just grabbed a spare seat at each dinner meeting. They had a Spring/Fall sale, a Halloween hayride, and a Breakfast with Santa. Other than the sales, everything was mainly in 1 part of the city which was too far for me (not a central location at all) and then they moved the sales there as well. They never had any play dates, all in all, IMO our club is good for 1 thing, the sales.

I'm active in my local group and really enjoy it. We have a monthly meeting that is just the moms. Sometimes it's socials (happy hours) vs a meeting. We also have guest speakers, who have been fantastic. There are a few family events a year, 2 rummage sales and today we had a new member's brunch (mimosas and all), which was a lot of fun. I've met several women with babies close in age to my boys and have had stroller walk dates with them. I'm guessing that this fall, when our babies are a little older, we can get together for true play dates. Overall I'm happy I joined and get a lot out of it, but like anything, I find that the more effort I put in (going to meetings, asking other mom's for numbers to get together) the more I get out of it.
I'm active in my local one and it's great. The people are a lot of fun and really supportive.
In addition to our monthly meetings we have two sales every year, playdates twice a month, moms nights out, monthly momonly lunches, new moms brunch twice a year, spring picnic, fall picnic, holiday party, and end of year banquet. It's a good mix of moms only and families.
From what I've read on this board, some of the clubs are amazing and some are not. The only way to know is to check it out!
Saving money while raising more kids than you bargained for!
