MFM or OB?

I just got my "When you're expecting twins, triplets and quads" in the mail yesterday. Our family is moving to a new state in about a month so I'll need to find a new doc when I get there. Should I ask for a referral to a MFM instead of just an OB/GYN?

Thoughts?

  • OB, they'll refer to MFM as needed.  GL with the move!

  • I have an OB only and a very low risk pregnancy as far as twins go. Ive never seen an MFM but really stressed over it at the end of the first trimester. I figured if there was any reason I would have a back up plan and did research.

  • I see both. My OB takes care of the basic stuff and delivery, my MFM does the u/s and NSTs.

  • So far, I've only seen an OB. However, she left it up to me if I wanted a MFM too. I am seeing an MFM on Monday and I'll be just shy of 14w6d. Nothing really pointing to high risk just twins, IVF, and being 40 when I deliver. I'm doing it as a preventative measure.

  • Do you know if you are carrying mono/di or di/di twins? That makes a difference. It's recommended that mono/di mommas see an MFM for TTTS monitoring. Di/di often do see an MFM as well but it's not AS necessary unless you have complications.
