Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Anyone tried Similac Total Comfort?

I just saw it at Kroger for the first time yesterday.  I've never seen it before so I am wondering if it is new.  It says it is for discomfort due to persistent feeding issues.  It has "partially broken down protein for easy digestion."

LO has been on Alimentum which is for "protein sensitivity."  LO was diagnosed with a milk protein intolerance at 2 months.

At any rate, I was wondering if anyone else had tried this new formula.  It is about $16-17 a can instead of the $28-30 a can that Alimentum costs.  Plus, you can buy it in the bigger container and even that container is less than the small can of Alimentum which you can't buy in anything but the can.

Re: Anyone tried Similac Total Comfort?

  • I've been wondering the same thing and planned on asking our pedi. According to similac a site it's new. DD is my 2nd child in a year on alimentum. Pedi said maybe at 9 months we can try a switch to soy. DS was never able to switch to soy but at 1 year we stopped formula and he did well on soy milk and at 18 months we switched to whole milk and he's fine.

  • I've been wondering, too.  Wish I had an answer. We have our 9 month appt on Fri and I think I'll talk to the pedi about it.  Might just try it and see, though with only a few months left it seems silly to rock the boat.
  • It's not the same. It still has cows milk protein in it. Whats hydrolized is the whey not casien like in Alimentum. It also still contains lactose. Its the Similac equivalent to Gerber Soothe, only with different additives like sugar. This is not a good formula for a child with MSPI. It's meant for babies who are lactose intolerant, not protein intolerant.
