Hypothyroidism?

Does anyone have hypothyroidism here? I started temping a week ago and my highest temp has been 97.06. I intend to contact my dr next week but I just wanted to know how other women dealt with it. Do you take synthroid? Is there a more natural way you have found to manage your hypothyroidism? And most importantly, how has it affected your TTC? Any stories, advice, encouragement is greatly appreciated!

Re: Hypothyroidism?

  • I responded to this on TTGP, but since here you ask about more natural ways to promote thyroid health I'll add this bit :)  My doctor has directed me to stay away from soy, cut back on gluten, and avoid goitorgenic (sp?) food.  These foods include broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, and a bunch of others.  You can google it.  Good luck!

I have been hypo for 38 years and have always taken synthroid. I have also had uncontrolled type 1 diabetes for 2 1/2 years. My endo didn't put me on any special diet or anything when i was TTC. He just checked my thyroid level every month during pregnancy. My levels went up and down a tiny bit but nothing major.
  • I've been hypo for 2 years and take synthroid. Yesterday was cd77 for me. Just got AF today and that's how I've been running lately. I've got an appt. with my endocrinologist on Wednesday because I've been feeling off.
  • Oh, my endo told me once pregnant I need bloodwork every 6 weeks to make sure my levels are good but other than that its business as usual.
  • Thanks ladies! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond.

    GL to you all!

Hopefully all you need is an adjustment of your dose.  Hope you feel better soon!

  • I was diagnosed hypo 3 years ago.  Before being diagnosed I had my dd and two miscarriages.  I am 35 weeks pregnant now with my second (ds) and my thryroid levels have been checked monthly with three med adjustments.  I am on synthroid (250 mcg) and my doctor has told me to watch my diet with soy and high vC foods, along with taking my prenatals at least 6 hours away from my meds.

  • I was dx'd between my kids.  I actually had a m/c & after that it was taking me longer to get pg again & my luteal cycles were all effed up.  So I went in to get checked & sure enough, I was hypo.  Turns out, I was actually pg when I went to the doc (as in, too early even to test), but I probably would have lost that baby as well if I hadn't started on meds right away.  Once I had my positive pg test my blood was tested weekly at first as my levels were so out of whack it could have still affected the preg.  It went to monthly checks, then after I had her I was checked every few months, then it went to yearly.  I've actually been on the same dosage since I was dx'd- through preg, nursing & after.  I am on 75 mcg of Levothyroxin w/zero side effects.

What has been your lowest temp? Some people just run low. I just did a quick google search and found this:

"Although the normal body temperature of the majority of the general public may be 98.6 F, there is some variation among individuals, according to Columbia University Health Services. If you are not suffering from any other signs of infection or illness and your temperature is in the range of 96 to 97 degrees, your normal may just be lower than that of other people.         Read more: https://www.livestrong.com/article/531584-what-does-it-mean-if-you-run-a-subnormal-temperature/#ixzz2Tn6GaS98

I just started temping this month too and so far I've been between 95-97 every morning, and the later in the day that I temp the closer to 97 I am.

If you don't mind, let me know what your doc says!

Thanks for that info I'm going to check out the link. My lowest temp was this morning at 96.45F. The more I look into it the less likely I think I'm hypo. My body is just messed up. I still plan on calling my dr though this week and I'll let ya know what she says! Even if she get put on provera or something that would be fabulous. I feel so helpless not knowing what's going on with my body.
