I understand that breastfed/formula fed only poop is water soluble and shouldn't need treatment before washing, but......
I have an old top load washer with no plain rinse cycle so I usually set it on cold/cold and start but leave the lid up so the diapers can soak and then I let it run the regular wash cycle and then I add the detergent and switch it to hot/cold and run like normal. The problem I'm having isn't with the diapers stinking or repelling. It's with finding lumps of poop in the tub of the washer (and on other diapers) after the cold/cold cycle is done.
Does that mean I need to change something with how I'm washing them or does that mean that I need to scrape the poop off or use a liner even though at 2.5 months all he gets is breastmilk and formula?
Re: washing diapers question
You shouldn't have clumps of poo if the rinse agitates.. ...
Since I do them in a regular wash cycle, it does agitate -- or at least it should. Now I'm starting to wonder since the prefolds will often still be folded when it is done. Hmmmm, going to check on that when I'm done pumping.

Dont know that the load is too big since I was only washing about a dozen prefolds and a couple thirsties duo covers in an extra large capacity washer. I did confirm the washer was agitating during a large load of regular laundry.
