NUCB in Alabama?

We are currently in west Alabama and must stay within county lines to deliver per my insurance. There are two hospitals and neither are known for being pro-NUCB. I haven't actually talked to my OB yet (did I mention that midwives are illegal?) because my first appointment isn't for the next few weeks but does anyone know who decides whether or not I can bring my own tub to labor in? If not, my mom who is an OB nurse will be checking me as I labor at home so I can show up at the last minute at the hospital. I'd rather labor in the tub AT the hospital because I have very quick deliveries (Pushed 6 times with my first and 2 times with my second, both times my legs never left the stirrups because they were "practice pushes") and I'm scared of having baby on the side of the road but if I can't labor in water at the hospital, I'd rather stay home. So question: who decides whether or not I can bring my own tub to labor in?

  • I would imagine the hospital makes that sort of decision. I don't know but I would think if they don't have tubs they would not allow you to bring one for liability purposes.
