Preparing for a delay (kinda long)

Hi ladies,

I go in for another monitoring appointment tomorrow morning, probably the last one with my RE before trigger.  Last time we checked we had 4 growing well and some other small ones.  My RE said that the last place started off low on stims and then upped the dose too late and that they did the ER too late, letting the lead collie go to get more numbers. It makes sense, everything he said. But he started me on the same dose, and when I questioned it, the nurse said it was the max for that drug (taking bravelle instead of follistim this time) and then he upped it yesterday. 

We agreed that if this time we didn't get good numbers we would not do the ER because my insurance covers 4 ERs; so if we don't do it, I can try another cycle.  Thing is- the 3 other times I had better numbers. The first time I had 8 eggs, all mature and the 2nd time was bad.. I don't remember exactly- but either way we only transferred 1 embryo on day 3. That was with the lupron/follistim protocol. The 3rd time we did the follistim/ganirelix and had 6 eggs, 4 mature but oval shaped (???) and put back 2 on day 3.

If that didn't work, how can I possibly go forward with 4 or 5 only?? I know he will say they are the lead ones.. and normally I only have one lead, this time I have 3 leaders.. and then I'll be confused.. and probably agreeable because my RE is so calm and seems so sincere..  I hate to sound selfish or greedy- but I just want enough to freeze in case it doesn't work, to not have this be my final/final try. I never had a huge dose of meds with the lupron cycle and my numbers were misleading for IVF#2- maybe we should try another lupron cycle again? 

I know it only takes one- but what would you do? Push for another cycle?

I'm so sorry you are facing this. I guess the thing that you have to ask yourself is if you will regret moving forward if this cycle didn't work. And if you believe that you might be able to possibly get better results with a new protocol.  It doesn't sound like you are getting stellar progress this time around, so it might be worth it to cancel. 

I can't imagine the decisions you have to make here, and I wish you all the best with whatever you decide.

Thanks. Turns out I'm doing better with that extra menopur did the trick. I have about 10 follies over 10 today and still 4 or 5 over 16.  He said this is where he wants me to be. I am over stressing and just need to leave this in someone else's hands at this point. I guess having so many unsuccessful tries I've gone from optimist to pessimist.

Our very first cycle we were told they would check the sperm first and if it didn't thaw well they would do an emergency fresh retrieval from DH that day. Turned out instead they gave the thawed sperm a drug to 'revive' them and did not do as they said. I have regretted that we didn't ask enough questions and stay on top of our RE enough, so I'm kinda way too involved at this point.
