Kyron

We like the name Kieren but would like it pronounced Kyren. We are throwing around Kyren, Kyron or Kyran as possible spellings to avoid the name being pronounced Keeren. What do you think of the spellings? Any middle name suggestions?

Why would you want a name to be pronounced differently than it is? That would make it a different name. I would look for another name that has the pronunciation (or similar prn.) that you are looking for.

  • I will never be able to disassociate this name from the poor little missing boy who was probably murdered and probably by his vengeful step mother.

Apart from that I don't find anything appealing about the name.

When I look at Kieren, I hear it kyren....the kie part of the name rhyming with pie. When I ran it past a friend she saw the kie being pronounced key. Making it sound more like keeren. I was wondering if the spelling Kyron would alleviate any confusion of how to pronounce the name.

  • Kieran is pronounced Keer-in.  So that means you don't really like the name Kieran.

    What about Myron or Byron?

Kieran is pronounced KEER-awn or  KEE-ar-awn. It is the anglicized form of Ciaran. It is not pronounced Key ron or Kie (rhyming with pie) ron.

This, although that may be a regional thing, I don't know if the story went nationwide?

It was on Dateline a couple of times. And if they ever find his poor little remains I'm sure it will be spread all over national news again.

this. The area where everything went down is like 15 minutes from me. My heart breaks every time I hear the name Kyron.

  • So, you don't actually like the name Kieran and just want to make something up. Right?

If you make up a spelling and make up a pronunciation, you're making up a name.

I'm in NYC and I have the same association. To be honest I would probably have forgotten the story (not that it wasn't terrible but I have a bad memory) but the name stuck in my head.

This.  I went to high school with his dad, so while I probably wouldn't know about him otherwise (I live on the East Coast now), I heard about him through mutual friends.  Very sad.

I have to confess that I was never really sure how to pronounce Kyron when the story arose - I feel like the second syllable should be pronounced AHN but it is probably more of a schwa sound.  If that makes sense.  Anyway, if you spell and pronounce it differently from Kieran, it's a different name.

Gosh, really? I feel so sorry for him and Kyron's mother, I cannot imagine how awful it must be to not know for sure what happened to your son. I also can't imagine finding out you're married to a crazy person. So sad. :(

  • If you are going to pronounce the name as KY-ron, then spell it Kyron. Kieran is pronounced KIER-ahn. Two different names.

  • I agree that Chyron is the name of the images on the bottom of the news screen.

Chiron is a famous centaur from Greek mythology.

    I wouldn't use it as a name.

  • When I saw Kieren I thought Kyron, but I've never seen the name before so Idk how much my opinion matters. If you want to spell something differently almost everyone on here will be opposed to it, that's just the bump. Which, everyone is entitled their opinion so not saying that's a bad thing. I got a looooot of people telling me I was stupid for wanting to change up the spelling of Eden. And eventually we decided to keep it the same because of what was said on here. It was rude, but it was truth :P

However, it's your baby's name!! So if you want to spell it Kyron go for it! I don't think it's bad, I've seen waaaaaay more unique names than that and honestly I don't think it looks or sounds bad at all. I do like Kyron better that Kyren or Kyran, those look like Karen to me and kind of like a girl name.

I think Kyron James sounds good, Idk any other middle names though. Also I'd never heard of the missing little boy. That sounds so sad! But I think if you don't live near where that happened and you hadn't heard of it before it won't be an issue.

The problem here is that OP is pronouncing Kieran wrong. It's not pronounced Ky-ron. No one was rude. This thread is just confusing. Kyron is not the same name as Kieran. Plain and simple. Different spelling+different sound=different name.

  • Kieran =/= Kyron. You don't get to choose the pronunciation of already established names.

If you want his name to be said Ky.Ron then spell it that way.

It reminds my of Pyrex or something - like a product name designed by committee to sounds strong and manly. Krylon spray paint. That's it!

Yep, the paint! I knew it was something.

It looks like a planet from Star Wars or Superman.

Don't make up names.  It is dreadful.  I think Kieren is a great name and different on its own accord.
