I really like Elliot. I don't have any associations that pop into my head unbidden. It's all boy to me but my first thought is Elliot from Scrubs when I try & think of an association.
I love this name. The first thing that comes to mind is Elliot from Scrubs, so I do think of it as both a boy's and girl's name. However, I know the general consensus here is that that's a punishable offense.
I do like it for a boy, but have seen it as both at daycare, ballet, etc.

I do, yes, but I think that's a really good association. E.T. is a great movie.
And, not to make you feel old, but E.T. came out over 30 years ago, so if you are worried about the association for your LO-- well, I wouldn't so much.

I've been trying to convince DH about Elliot all week and he won't budge. I love it. My first thought was ET, but there are worse associations, and I don't think that most people automatically think of it.
I do and if I'm being totally honest, whenever I hear the name Elliott, I hear E.T. saying the name in my head. BUT, I loved that movie as a child and, for me, it's a nice association for the name.
As pp suggested, your child is unlikely to have that association come to mind for his peers because it won't be a popular movie for them. Maybe their parents will have the association, but that's still not a bad thing at all.
That was one of the names we had picked for a boy, spelled the exact same way. We are going with another name instead but did say if one day we have two boys, this will be the second boys name.

I think it's cute for a boy.
I despise it for a girl.
