Trying to Get Pregnant

TTC after embedded IUD

Quick summary of my story: the first thing to know is that I scar easily.

Second, when my IUD was inserted post csection, it was inserted through my uterine wall. Douchey doctor dismissed my pain as me being a wimp and told me all my subsequent concerns about spotting and sharp pains were normal or nothing to worry about. Another OB finally gave me an ultrasound and diagnosed me. IUD was surgically removed.

After, new OB warned me that due to the scar tissue from the track the IUD followed going in and coming out, and from being there a year and a half, plus scarring from the csection, that TTC could take longer and that I'd have a higher MC risk.

Since embedded IUDs aren't that common, especially not long term ones, and because each case is different, she couldn't really give me numbers.

We've been trying six months now. I know that's well within the normal range, so try not to worry yet, but I wondered if anyone who posted here has had a similar experience.

I also have crazy irregular cycles which makes things more fun.

Thanks in advance for your help!

My SO's BFF's wife was KU within 6 months of having her IUD surgically removed.

It can take a healthy couple up to a yr to get pregnant. Don't borrow trouble,

Thanks for the success story. I'm trying not to borrow trouble, as you put it. Like I said in my OP, I know six months is well within a normal range. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this and what they found.

Do you know where her IUD was or how far through it was?

    Hi Rondack!

I read about your Mirena nightmare over on parenting.  Are you charting?  It might help you find out if you are even having well timed sex.

I've been tracking my periods but didn't plan to start full on charting till after this cycle. We have sex pretty much every day, and only miss a day or two a month, so I was being lazy and trying to avoid the work of taking temps and such. Lazy, I know.

waves to Rhonda Stick out tongue I know we have one reg who had to have her Mirena surgically removed, but she's been busy IRL lately. I'll try and kick her over from FB.

Thanks! It helps even to know that I'm not completely strange.

I had it out at a teaching hospital, and the med student rounds were embarrassing a bit. "You'll only see this type of insertion issue once or twice a career, so if you're in the surgery, look close." Awkward...

    Kick me over? Lol.

OP, I had to have my Mirena surgically removed on February 28th of last year. In my case, it wasn't embedded, but displaced, the threads got twisted and were inside of my cervix. Those things can move around a lot in a ute.

I'm not 100 percent sure about the scarring issue, but I do know that the doctor that placed it should have done a follow up exam about 6 weeks after insertion. That, along with the pain you were in should have alerted them that something was wrong. My doc did an ultrasound the day of insertion and at my follow up appointment, six weeks later.

When you say it was inserted through your uterine wall, do you mean that it punctured your uterus during the insertion?

Yup. That's exactly what happened. I screamed rather loudly, thought I would black out, sobbed and shook... They said "no one else complains that much. You're fine."

I didn't get an ultrasound that day or any follow up. When I moved, I went to a new OB because I couldn't find my strings, she did an exam but no ultrasound and found them. Te OB who finally did an ultrasound said it'd likely shifted further in at that point.

    It hurt like an SOB.

    Thanks for sharing your story!

Well, I didn't say that.... Lol jk

Hey now! Lol, I'm a medical freak. All the "this risk only happens in .00001 percent of all cases"? That's me. Right here.

It's not borrowing trouble when your uterus has been punctured by an IUD and the doctor tells you you have a bunch of scar tissue that may decrease your fertility and increase your miscarriage rate.

OP, I don't have any personal experience, but good luck.

Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.
