Update: tattytrolls NOT welcome!

For those that backed me up, I feel like you would be happy to hear my results:

And yes, I know it's only been two nights, but I am very hopeful that Parker found his way back to good sleep.

night one: it is what everyone says it is, the worst night.  At 10:30 he woke up for the first time after going to bed at 8:15.  It took 40 minutes of crying, and me going in every 5 minutes to comfort him, for him to put himself to sleep.  I tried, but I couldn't go more than 5 minutes.

He woke back up at 3:15 and we did the same thing. Took another 40 minutes, off and on since he would fall asleep but then wake back up a few minutes later. But by 4:00 he was down for the rest of the night and woke at his normal time of 7:30. Guess what? He woke up smiling, not yawning!

last night: OMG!  Took only 15 minutes and he was out at 8:30. I let him cry for 3 minutes, then I went in for a 2 minutes and rubbed his back. Repeated this until he put himself to sleep.

he woke up at 10:30 again, but fussed off and on for 3 minutes and I didn't even have to go in. He was back out for The rest of the night and woke at his normal time.

He was so happy when I cam in singing his good morning song! I could tell he was proud of himself!

I know, from last night, that this was the right decision for us.  I guess that only matters now though, since in a few years he's going to turn into a two headed monster who doesn't trust his mommy because all she wanted to do was help him learn to sleep again.... ;-)

Re: Update: tattytrolls NOT welcome!

  • Glad to hear it is going well so far!!  I would not worry about that troll - she tends to run away and pretend she never said anything when people don't praise her for her stupidity.

  • Awesome!!! Glad to hear it is working out for you. I always love that sleepy little smile that greets me in the mornings when I go in to get DS. Sounds like he is getting some good sleep now, and from the sounds of it I bet you are too. Good job Mama!! :)

  • Great news! Glad to hear everyone is getting better rest now! I love going into DS room to be greeted by a happy smiley jumpy baby.
I really wouldn't worry at all what anyone else says. Just do what you feel is best for your family and stay consistent. Thank you for the updates.

Yay!  That was similar to what happened for us.  We will both be the moms of serial killers in 20 years, but oh well, at least our kids are getting the sleep they need now!
  • I did the same method with DS but if your kids are going to be serial killers then mine will be their cult leader. DS was STTN at 8 weeks. At four months he started waking up twice once at 9 and then like 4 am. I knew it wasn't hunger because the 9 pm wake up was just 45 minutes after he fell asleep. The new cool thing was to roll over. He figured out in two nights how to get himself comfortable again and has been STTN ever since.

That's awesome! Most people, if they can get through the first 2 nights, have great results with sleep training!  I'm glad to see you did as well!  Do you have a video monitor? I know that our video monitor really helped us with the sleep training, to see if she is rolling around, fussing, looking for her binkie, or full blown sitting up and crying. :)

The "jumping" is the best when they're happy!  Of course, I probably shouldn't have let my 3 year old teach her how to jump in the crib, should I have? :D

This! Don't forget, you're his mama, you know what's best! Don't worry about the ignorant, close-minded, soap box dwelling weirdos!  I think you're doing a fabulous job!! :)

I only do what Dr. Sears tells me to do.

and by Dr. Sears, I mean his website.

And by his website I mean his website I mean what the people who work for him write
