BF not fun anymore!

Normally I love breastfeeding but it has not been fun the past couple weeks! The girls are 7.5 months and my goal is one year, but I may have to reconsider that goal. They chomp, even despite my many attempts to correct it, they are distracted and they've been snacking... quite annoying. My supply has dropped a little bit but I think that is to be expected around this time. Things are definitely better when I nurse them one on one, but I like the time saving convenience of tandem feeding. Thoughts? Advice?

  • Don't have advice but wanted to say congrats for making it so long! I hope I can do the same!

  • I only tandem nursed for the first three months but I definitely experienced this stage at that same time. Thankfully it only lasted about a week and a half. One thing that helped was holding them really close to the breast with a hand behind their head. It really cut down on the niplash because if I sensed them starting to pull away I could gently press on their heads to keep them latched. I hope this phase is short lived for you and FWIW I think that if it feels like it might be time to be done you've done an awesome job feeding them for so long! Good luck Mama.

  • I went through this too starting around 6 months and still have a hard time some days. In addition to struggling with distracted babies, I just started to get a feeling that someone on this board brilliantly described as "touched out." As the babies get bigger and their latches stronger, it can be an overwhelming feeling. You're smart to nurse them one on one when you can. I too have a goal of 1 year, and you can do it! As they get older hopefully you'll be able to drop a feeding. In the past month we've gone from 6 to 4 feedings as they dropped their night feeding and spaced out day feedings to every 4 hours. That has helped a lot, and that will come soon for you! In the meantime hang in there, it will go by fast, I promise! ;) Download a good ebook and make nursing sessions fun for everyone, that;s what helped me!

  • No advice, just wanted to say you have done an amazing job! Even if you stop tomorrow your babes have already got the most important benefits of BM. Sometimes that isn't said enough. Congrats.
