Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Solids - 4 day rule

Whatever rule you follow, 3 day, 4 day, 5-7 day (I've heard them all) how strict are you? At some point do you get more lax? At this rate, it'll take years to introduce foods to LO. What about foods with multiple ingredients further down the road like cherrios, table foods, etc? TIA
Sept 2013 started TTC#2 (never got PP period so hoping for the first egg to drop)
Jan 2014 - diagnosed POF (Premature Ovarian Failure) and told pregnancy not possible without egg donor because my ovaries would never function again with my hormone levels (FSH 136, LH 98.6, AMH <.03, estradiol 0, HCG 7) - using acupuncture, chiropractic care and TCM herbs / supplements
March 11, 2014 ovulated despite every doctors prognosis!!!
Oct 2014 hormones (FSH 48, Estradiol 89, HCG 1) not good, but heckuva lot better!

Re: Solids - 4 day rule

  • We followed a 3 day rule until we had introduced DS to most basic fruits and veggies, around 6-7 months. Then, we'd intro one new food a day, giving him 24 hours to have a reaction. If he did, then we'd eliminate that food. Its pretty easy to narrow down the culprit of an allergic reaction that way.

  • Ummm, yea, we didn't really follow any number of day rules.  Maybe I did a little bit with our first but definitely not with any of the others.  We don't have any history of food allergies though, I think if we did I might have been a little more careful.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I always did a 3 day rule. With DD1 she broke out in hives head to toe one day and it was difficult to figure out what from, to this day pedi said food allergy, allergist said environmental. Either way, it was scary, but has never happened again and our kids eat everything! I'd be more skeptical if our families had known allergies, but we are free and clear thank goodness. IMO, it's mommy instinct.

  • I followed the 3 day rule. I didn't follow it very long. DH and I are not allergic to anything. I do write down every thing LO eats and drinks. Just as a guide to see when his growth spurts are as far as formula/food intake and if he does have an allergic reaction to anything I give him.

  • I've always followed the 3 days rule cause I?m kind of stressed out with starting solids.. My Lo is 6 months and I started with banana. So far, I am using https://goodmomming.com to get recommendations but idk. I do not do foods with multiple ingredients.

  • I think I did a 3 day rule with most of the first foods, but after a few weeks of basics with no reaction then I would just intro one new food/day, until it got to the point of eating lots of "real" foods and by then we just introduced whatever, whenever.

  • With my first, I started on the '3 day rule' for a couple weeks, then it dropped to 2 days, then 1. I made all her pur?es, so she might get the same thing several times in a week, but after the first couple months, she was definitely getting a new food a day.   I followed the 3 day rule because I was a FTM and the doc said to.

This time around, LO is just eating what we eat, and since I don't eat the same thing every day, neither does he.

  • I followed the 3 day rule with DD (mostly because of being scared after friends kids had random allergies), and it did take awhile, but it didn't bother me. I didn't star feeding her more meals anyway until I started the transition to WCM.

  • We followed the 4 day rule with DS... I probably won't pay much attention to that this time around!
