MOTY - I'm an idiot

Mom of the Year - right here.  Pip fell down the stairs this morning because I didn't close the baby gate.  I was in a hurry because Pip had diarrhea (antibiotics for an ear infection that refuses to resolve - we've been battling it for 6 weeks now - and they just kill all her good belly flora).  She let loose while she was sitting on my lap - so I was also a mess.  I hustled her upstairs, holding her weird so as not to cause more damage - didn't close the gate.  After I got her cleaned up, I ran over to our room to change pants and while I was pulling them on I heard a series of thumps, a startled cry, a couple more thumps - by then I was moving.  She was about 6 or 7 steps down from the top (our staircase has16 steps) and her book was all the way at the bottom.  She was crying a little - but more scared than anything. 

She's fine - but I feel like the biggest jacka$$ for not noticing that the gate was open when I passed it on my way to change pants.  I was in a hurry because it was after 8, I had a conference call at 9 and I still had to drop her at DC, plus drive to work.  I put work ahead of my daughter's well-being and safety - I suck.

I'm glad Pip is ok. We all have those rushed moments where something gets overlooked. The important thing is that she is ok.

We all have those moments. It wasn't on purpose. Try not to beat yourself up too much.

ETA:If it makes you feel better I once forgot to latch our front door. Next thing I know I hear a squeal of joy and look up to see DS running out the door and down the sidewalk. He'd banged the door until it was jarred open. Thankfully I caught him before he got to the road.

Biggest hugs, my friend. You were focusing on her, and things happen among a chaotic moment, I think everyone has things like this happen. I know the other day I dropped Vince because I lost hold with my hand, and I felt so terrible seeing he bruised his little lip...

((Hugs))  Glad Pip is OK!  And, I agree with PPs.. try not to beat yourself up!  You were rushing around for good reason.. it's not like you were just being careless and made a conscious decision to not get up and close the gate.. accidents happen, but the important thing is she's just fine   Hang in there, Momma!

Thanks ladies. It helps to know that others have experienced similar "oh crap" moments. I am so grateful that she is ok. (DH is going to blow a gasket...)
