XP - Merlin Suit for Crib Transition

Hi Ladies,

My DS (19 weeks) STTN in his nap-nanny on the floor next to our bed. He currently naps in the crib for about 45 minutes at a time. We've tried to transition to the crib and he moves around so much he ends up the wrong direction with feet and arms through bars. I was wondering what your experience was with the Merlin Sleep Suit and whether it was a good idea to try one just to get him into the crib. I'm hesitant because right now he only sleeps in his PJs and I don't want to introduce something else that I'll have to wean him from later.

Anyone have experience with late introduction of the sleep suit just to transition baby to crib?

Thanks!

  • My DD moves around a ton in the crib too.  Most times her feet end up where her head started out.  We have a breathable bumper in the crib so that she doesn't get her limbs stuck in the slats.

  • I wouldn't do it if I were you.  The Merlin was great for us weaning off the swaddle.  But it quickly turned into a nightmare bc DS would wiggle completly out of the thing when he got restless and that would just make him even more wiggly.  It definitely never slowed his rolling, wiggling and scooting around down at all.  It just kept his startle reflex from waking him.

We've now cut the legs off ours, so it's kind of a ridiculous Merlin onesie thing. He can't get out of it anymore, but I'm ready to ditch it, but he's kind of attached to it.  At least, when I tried putting him down without it he wouldn't settle down.  So, I need to make an effort to wean him off it soon.

  • DS does great with his suit, though like you, I'm nervous for when we will discontinue it. The first night we put him in it in the crib went very well.

My DS is in one, and it definitely helped with the transition.

I'm planning to try to get him out if it once he's easily rolling belly to back; he only does back to belly now and I don't want him to get stuck. Hopefully by then his startle will have chilled out a little too.
