Success after IF

I'm not ready!!

Last night DH and I were talking, and he wants to move Hannah over to her room right now. I suddenly felt upset cuz I'm not ready. So I made him a deal that he has to finish the nursery first. And since we're currently working on the backyard, I'm hoping to gain myself another month.

How old was your LO when you moved them over? I might need some emotional support on this. It just seems to early! She's growing up too fast!

We waited until 6 months and I still wasn't ready.  But it really did turn out to be for the best.  Starting that very first night we all slept so much better.  In fact, that might have been the first time she STTN.  I thought 6 months was right for us, but MH swears the next baby is going in the nursery much sooner.  Just remember it doesn't have to be all or nothing.  If you try it one night and it's too much for you, tell him you tried and you will try again in a month.  Especially since you are EBF, and you are the one to take the night feedings, it really is your call.  At least that was my argument.  GL, and let us know how it goes if you move her!

I'm probably in the minority here, but we kicked Sophie out of our room at 1 month.  She is SUCH a noisey sleeper!  I couldn't take it anymore.  Every grunt, groan, scream, movement was waking and keeping me up.

I love her, but I was all geeeeeeeeeet ouuuuuuuuuut!  Smile

You make me giggle.  You are so funny.

It was sort of the opposite with us - I suggested moving DS while DH was having a really hard time with it.  I just felt like DS was not getting a good night sleep in our room because he's a pretty light sleeper.  Plus, he was getting way too big for the bassinett part of the PNP and it would sway every time he moved.  I just felt like he wasn't comfortable in the PNP, at all!  And when he would wake up, I was the one who got up with him, so I think that's why it was a little "easier" for me.

He transitioned into his room right around 4 months.  Honestly, we all slept a lot better when he went into his room.  Even though we missed having him right there with us at night.  But if you're not ready, then you probably won't sleep very well!  Why does he want to move her?

DH wants to move her cuz he thinks it will help us have more sex.

And Hannah has been sleeping 8ish hours in a row now with basically no middle of the night feeds he doesn't see why not.

I didn't want to dash his hopes lol. Who knows. Maybe it will help...

The major issue is that she doesn't fall asleep until 11, not that she sleeps in our room

This made me LOL!  We moved J around 8 weeks because I was going back to work at 9 weeks and wanted to make sure he transitioned ok.  We all started sleeping better.  However, poor DH still doesn't get much sex.

I wanted to move him out at 2 months max, but DH wanted to wait until he is STTN. He's only waking up once at 5 and DH said he was good with it because he can just be up for work that early but H is still in our room. I know I won't sleep much the first night we do move him but it's for the best.

  • Our apartment is a walk through so our room was connected to DS's room. He slept in his crib in his room from the day we brought him home. When I was midway through this pregnancy we moved his room one more room down in the walk through so we could turn the room closest to us into the girls' nursery. I was so upset in the days leading up to the move, but once it was done it was actually no big deal. For me, the anticipation was worse than the actual move. Good luck!

For some reason I am feeling more nervous about moving the new baby into her own room when she get's here.  I'm not sure why I feel differently this time!

Are our husbands friends? This was his thought as well. Our children seem to know whenever we mess around and punish us all night for it. The last time, DS2 woke up every 90 min. DH said we are never doing it again!! Let's just say his theory didn't really pan out. LOL.

We moved the boys out of our room a week after they started STTN. It was about five months. I would have kept them in there until middle school, but DH said no more! They didn't struggle with the transition at all. But, I have had many nights of missing them!!

I also told him that if he wants to get up and bring J to me when she needs to eat and take her back when she is done we could discuss it further. That was the end of the conversation since DH has been getting a full night sleep since J was two weeks old.

I kicked my kid to the curb at 4 weeks. She's noisy and I was taking her to her room to feed her regardless to spare MH, since I am SAH and he is working. I can actually see her better on the video monitor than in the cradle, so it worked for me :)

That's a really good point too.  I have a video monitor, so I can see her on the video when she's in her crib.  When she was in the PNP in our room, I had to get up to go look at her.  Excellent point to consider.

  • We've moved the first three right around 3 months but Maren is still with us even at 6 months.  I'd like to move her (I think she'd sleep better and so would we) but but since she will be sharing with Sully I'm worried about him waking up if she wakes up.

They do grow up too fast.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

    This Cluttered Life

  • At exactly 5 months we moved him to his room and sleep trained. I was nervous but a video monitor and lots of checks helped ease my mind. I kept waking up during the night and if I really couldn't relax I'd go check on him.

  • I think I am the minority on this one but DS still sleeps with me at 21 months. He will nap in his room but I prefer him with me at night. Dh has always slept in another room because he gets up really early and I don't. If we want to have sex I just go to his room.

I guess I will move DS out when we have another LO. But then he might just go sleep with DH.

  • I didnt move DS until he was a year old. I loved having him in our room and he would only wake once to feed. Once I moved him he did sleep through the night though so not sure if I should have done it sooner. I wasnt ready until then. You should stick to your guns. They are only little once and if you feel in your heart you want to wait then you should IMO.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I'm totally in the minority, but we moved him before his 2 week birthday. His room is super close and I actually hear him through the ear closer to his room before I hear him through the ear closer to the monitor sometimes. I wake up and listen to the monitor sometimes or go check on him. Truthfully I think it was harder on me than him, and now he seems to get that the crib is where he goes for his "long sleep." (We haven't been successful with him getting to nap in there, even though he's spent every night in there for 2 months!)

I will say that I was getting annoyed at DH after he went back to work because he wanted to go to bed earlier than usual because of exhaustion. I know that he is working and getting up at 4:45am and I'm not, but it was killing me to wait for him all day and have him asleep w/in 2 hours of getting home. So with DS being in his own room, DH sleeps better and is able to stay up a little later to help me with evening crazy time. That was a big part of it for me, too!

Best of luck however it plays out. :)
