At my OB appointment yesterday I asked about having the MaterniT21 blood test and my doctor said I could, however then I couldn't have the NT scan at 12 weeks (insurance reasons). I ended up just sticking with the NT scan and usual bloodwork, but now I'm wondering if I should go with the MT21 blood test instead. From what I read it seems a bit more accurate than the NT scan ....
Which one would you do/have you done?
Re: Which Would You Choose?
Unexplained Infertility
After two Clomid cycles, three injectable IUI cycles, two IVFs, two miscarriages, and one lap surgery, IVF #2 has brought us our little boy!
TTC #2
After months of being postponed or cancelled, FET #1.3 (Natural FET) brought us twin girls!
see more After 12
Just because something isn't happening for you right now doesn't mean it will never happen.
IUI #1 - BFN IUI #2 - BFN
IVF - Starting injects May 25 IVF #1 - BFP!
IUI#2 Femara/Ovidrel (cd 5-9) = BFN
IUI#3 Femara/Ovidrel (cd 3-7) = BFP!
beta #1 11/23 = 270, P4 = 75
beta #2 11/28 = 2055
Our daughter E was born 7/29/2012!
Surprise, our 2nd daughter P was born 5/22/14!
I'm surprised they are even offering either to you as you are still so young. Heck, with Maren I couldn't even get the MaterniT21 and I was 40!
Given your age and risk factors I would probably do the NT scan so that I could see the baby again. But you're right, the MaterniT21 is more accurate.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
This Cluttered Life
Oh I didn't even know age had anything to do with the test! I know a few people who have had it done who were in their late 20's early 30's so ??? Anyway, Dr. Bear was totally fine with ordering it, just told me I'd have to go to Women's Pavilion to have it drawn because they don't do it at his office. But you know how he is Kelly ... he was in a good mood yesterday so that could have been why he was all about it. Had it been a different day he could have told me I didn't need it.
Does your OB do your NT or do you go to the MFM? I like going to the MFM for the NT and the A/S since I had a weird pregnancy last time and it makes me feel better.
My current insurance wouldn't even cover the NT scan if I wasn't turning 35 during my pregnancy, so if your insurance covers the NT and the NT bloodwork, I would go with that option. My OB didn't even say anything about the other test. The only way I've heard about it is from the Bump.
Cinciem - I also have ultrasounds every 2 to 4 weeks up until week 34 because of previous cervix issues and PTL stuff so not having the ultrasound wouldn't be that huge of a deal because I most likely will have one again at 14 weeks anyway ...
Carrie - I have the NT scan done at my regular OB's office. I know quite a few people who go to the same practice as you do and I know one of my good friends just had the test done (she turned 30 in January), but she may have asked about it herself ... not sure if her doc (the main one she sees is Dr. Powell) brought it up or not.
DECISIONS DECISIONS! I wish I could just do both but my insurance will only cover one or the other and I understand they are both looking for the same things so it's kinda a double dose.
