One & Done: Only child

NOADR - Child Being Anxious

Not sure if that is the right acronym for not related to onlies but thought it looked ok LOL.

So my sone has pretty much been a great sleeper.  But for the last few months he has trouble being in the room by himself.  Twice we have spent a sleepless week guiding him back to his room and tucking him in and telling him he can't sleep with mom and dad.  Both times it eventually worked and he went back to sleeping in his own room only to gradually strat waking again and coming to our room.  He is extremely frightened when he comes in and basically runs at full speed down the hall to get to our room.  It will start with once a night and gradullay increase till I end up sleeping in there with him so we can all get to sleep.  Now he is getting more nervous in general just being alone in a room during th day.  Trying to be patient but I am at wits end.  We have talked, he is afraid of robbers, ghost, maybe we will sink into the sea like Atlantis, etc etc.  Night time wise I have tried night lights, lovies.

He is seven (may be important detail).  He does not play scary video games or watch anything inappropriate on tv.  He says he hears things on the news on the school bus when the radio is playing.

He is a pretty nervous child in general.  Any thoughts sor anyone gone through this?

Oh man, that sounds tough. I have no advice because my LO is only 2.5 and hasn't gone through that yet, but it sounds disheartening. Sorry you are going through that.

It sounds like you are doing all you can with consistent, calm reassurance and not letting him watch scary things. I'm honestly not sure if its normal or not, but if you are concerned maybe his pediatrician would be able to suggest something.

Thanks for the sympathy!  Maybe kind of one and done related because my sister was like that but by mom would just tell her to come sleep in my room. LOL.

Good idea on talking to the doctor.  He has an appointment in the morning (planter wart ewwww),  so I will ask then.
