Ok, so yesterday was a big fat fail. I tried to put LO down in the merlin sleep suit (this worked great with ds) and in the crib also, since I figured I might as well just go for the gold. This is opposed to the miracle blanket and RNP. Well, she settled well in the sleep suit, but would wake every time I put her in the crib, no matter how long she had been sleeping for. She often falls asleep on our bed, so the flat surface isn't the problem. Anyhow, I abandoned ship after 2 hours of this and went for the RNP, where she did sleep, but then got up at 11pm, 2am, 3am, 4:30am, and for the day at 5:30am from those little arms flailing. Her hands were also quite cold too. Anyhow, tonight I just opted for the swaddle and RNP again. How on earth do you do this? Ds transitioned so easily! Obviously I should do one at a time: crib or swaddle. Which should I do first? Get her in the crib swaddled or RNP unswaddled?
Re: Swaddle and RNP to unswaddled and crib
What worked for us was this order...swaddled in RNP in HER room, then Merlin suit in RNP in HER room, then the Merlin suit in Crib for few weeks, then we transitioned her to regular PJs in crib.
When in Merlin, I put a SS onesie under and no socks. She got too warm with socks.
Until she was 3 1/2 months she slept swaddled in RNP in our room.
We did:
1. swaddled in RnP
2. Swaddled in crib
3. unswaddled in crib
I had to laugh at this because we're the same way. Every morning I tell DH we're doing cribs tonight because the twins look so scrunched and uncomfy in their RnPs...but then the evening comes and we're both tired, and we know they'll sleep in the RnP, and end up letting another night go by without trying cribs. I have no willpower!
OP: I would do swaddled in the crib first. I feel like getting them use to the crib is more of a challenge than getting use to being unswaddled.
