Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Question for FF Babies

My LO is a little over 2 months.  She is eating about 25 oz a day, 5 at a time.  I read that at this age babies should be eating every 3-4 hours, but my little one often gets fussy around 2 hours still, but I try to make her hold out.  How much and how often is your LO eating?

Re: Question for FF Babies

  • J is eating 4oz every 23 hours, he is a month old tomorrow. His doctor doesn't seemed concerned.

Edit: 2 to 3 hours, bump mobile ate my hyphen.

  • My LO is 7 weeks and eats 4 oz every 2ish hours and STTN and wont even eat more than that at her last feeding. I believe the average for this age is 24 to 32 oz a day, and it sounds like your LO is within that average. As long as LO is having wet and dirty diapers and gaining weight, no reason to worry!

At two months my little one was eating 4oz.  He was doing that every three hours and then it went down to every two hours.  So I bumped it up to 5 oz, and now he is doing 5 oz every 3 hours.  He is 2.5 months now.
  • I've read that the amount a baby should eat should depends on his/her weight, that they should eat 2 to 2.5 times their weight within a 24 hour period. I've been feeding my LO more than this, though, and my pediatrician didn't seem concerned.

Feed your baby when SHE is hungry. Don't pay attention to what you read about babies in general. Unless your pedi says otherwise, I'd follow her cues :)

This.  My heart hurts to think of your baby being hungry, but waiting to feed her :(

The reason I was waiting was because after she had been taken care of by my MIL and mom she was on a really wacky feeding and sleep schedule and SUPER fussy.  The dr said (and I read) that we should be more routine.  We saw him again today and I questioned him on it and he said again about 3 hours at this age and she is growing just fine.

DS is a little over 2 months and takes about 4 to 5 oz of formula per feed every 2-3 hours. During the night, he has been close to STTN by going without a feed for about 6-8 hours. But during the day, it is very rare that he goes 4 hours without needing to be fed.
  • dd is almost 7 weeks old and eats about 5oz of formula about every three hours during the day, then wakes once in the motn. she eats about 30 oz (+/- 1oz) within 24 hours.
