eczema help

I am pretty sure DD has eczema on her hands. I lotion and lotion them up, and we put aquaphor on at night. Some days they look better, but it never really goes away. I bought some different lotions/products at Target yesterday to try.

When she had her 18m checkup the doctor told me it was probably a reaction to the elastic in her winter coat. Yeah. Sure. And now it's summer. So I am thinking of making an appointment at the dermatologist if we can't get it under control a little better. Poor baby, sometimes she will whine and itch her hands/wrists.

What works for you (or your kids)??

If it were me, I'd give it a few days of:

1. dampen her hands

2. CeraVe lotion from the TUB not the pump bottle

3. Vaseline rather than Aquafor

 

Do this every time you wash her hands or 6-8x per day.  Especially, make sure you can do this overnight. 

If she'll wear cotton mittens or cotton gloves or just socks over her hands overnight, that'd be ideal.  If she won't, then I'd try the above.  If that didn't work over the next few days I'd be making an appointment with the dermatologist.

With the hands, it's difficult because steroid creams on kids' hands will undoubtedly end up in their mouths and eyes.  Not good!  Definitely talk to the derm about options that don't involve steroid creams first.

My friend has 2 kids each with bad eczema, She does aquaphor but her bathtime routine is what she said has made the most improvement. Before getting in the tub she puts almond oil on their skin to keep a moisture protective layer and does an oatmeal bath and after bath she pats them dry and then puts coconut butter lotion on them.

Thanks ladies! I will give these a try one by one. Hopefully something will help. I might be able to convince her it's fun to wear mittens to bed.
