LO turned 3 months on Monday and is 13 weeks today. He still doesn't really grab things. When he's on his back on his activity mat he reaches for some of the toys above him and may "grab" one of the rings, but it's really more than his hand got caught there and he keeps it there. When I brush things against his hands trying to see if he'll open his hand to hold it, nothing happens. He opens his hands and such, just not then. Shouldn't he be grabbing things by now? Sorry, I'm a nervous FTM...

Don't worry. Skills come at different times for different babies. DS just started to semi-grab things and is still far off from being good at it. It really is a 6 month skill. Plus, these skills show up overnight. One day they don't, the next day they do.
Bet your LO is doing other hitting other milestones though. Don't focus on the ones LO is NOT doing, rather, focus on the one his IS doing.
All of this! LO has been ahead of schedule for some skills and behind in others. The guidelines are just estimates. Plus, they do seem to show up over night.

I think at 13 wees LO was still just swatting things. She probably started grabbing things around 16 weeks. She wouldn't really reach for stuff when being held until maybe two weeks ago. She is now 25 weeks. When she grabs things she is very dexterous - all investigative fingers and everything goes into her mouth. It happens very quickly. I miss the nonmouth days.
