Fresh Transfer Canceled

Disappointed doesn't even describe what I'm feeling. Out of the 12 eggs that were fertilized, only 5 are still growing. None of them are at the blast stage so my fresh transfer for tomorrow has been canceled. They'll give the 5 embryos today to grow and then freeze whatever makes it to blast tomorrow. My nurse will give me an update tomorrow. I know it's not the end of the world but it still sucks big time. I have my fingers crossed for good news tomorrow but it's difficult to stay positive

Re: Fresh Transfer Canceled

  • I'm sorry. That does suck. I've had many FETs canceled so I know how you feel. Hang in there.

  • I may be wrong but I get the impression that there are more BFP following FET than their are fresh transfers.  So maybe this is a good thing...plus you can be a little more relaxed next cycle when they do the FET.  Sending thoughts and prayers that there are some great Embys to freeze for your next cycle.

This exactly.  Also, when I had my m/c after my fresh cycle the embryologist said that they have a LOT more chemical pregnancies compared to the frozen cycles since you are on a lot more drugs.  I know it stinks, but hopefully this is a blessing in disguise for you and it will be well worth the wait.  Good luck!

  • Thanks girls. I had heard about the increased chances with an FET and I'm trying to focus on that. I'm still really nervous that the 5 embryos will stop growing so I'll be a bit of basket case until I hear tomorrow's fert report. The nurse mentioned that they look like they're a day away from blast and I know I shouldn't worry but I do .. sigh.

  • Don't give up!

I'm a 2IF grad /lurker...my fresh cycle was cancelled the day after Thanksgiving 2011...stunk bigtime! But the good news is 1 made it to freeze...and that little guy just turned 7 months!

So as hard as today is, hopefully you'll be able to look back and be a success story a few months from now! Lots of ((((hugs)))) and T&Ps! 5 slow growers are a great number (we only had 3).

By any chance are you thru RMA? That is where we were...it just sounds exactly like the conversation I had with the nurse there.

Thanks for the success story. Every little bit helps! And yup, going through RMA. I've been with them since DS, although it was a lot easier for him than it has been for 2.

  • Sorry they had to cancel the transfer! I had my IVF consult at RMA in CT today and just heard the same thing about FET. Small world I guess :).

  • I can only imagine how disappointed you must feel.  I'm so sorry.  The PPs sound like there is a lot of hope though for a frozen transfer.  I hope those embies all do great, and one of them ends up being in your arms in a few months!

  • I'm so sorry! It might not be the end of the world, but think you deserve to feel that way for a little bit anyway! I can't imagine. I hope you can move on to FET.
