Bumpers(jldubb)

jldubb(or anyone else who uses bumpers), your pic got me to wondering...are those the breathable bumpers in his bed?  I've always used the bumpers that came with his room decor.  I think over time now they've gotten wore out from him stepping on them and what not and they won't stay up.  The other night he woke up crying...a panic cry.  I ran in there and both his legs were stuck in between the rails...because his stupid bumpers won't stay up.  Do the breathable ones stay up?  I am still using bumpers, because of the fact that he's all over the bed and I don't want something, like that happened the other night, to happen again.  Any suggestions?  NO FLAMING ME FOR USING BUMPERS!

  • We put bumpers in when he was about 10 months old. They are not breathable. He actually cuddles up with them at night. I am the most paranoid person in the world so it's a shock that we use them, but he was getting stuck and those breathable ones just didn't work for us.

  • The breathable ones work - but he is not in his crib playing/climbing.  My middle was a crib play/climb kid, so they would not have worked for her, so I never bothered.  She did get stuck a couple of times, but there was just no alternative.

We use regular bumpers. Just yesterday I untied them all, and put them back on. The ties had came loose from Aria standing on them (she loves to play in her crib after she wakes up). They seem to be ok now that I've re-done them.

I don't plan on taking the bumpers out anytime soon. Aria is a wild woman in her crib, and would either give herself a concussion or constantly get her limbs stuck in the slats if I took them out.

We used to use the breathable bumpers, but Aria was still getting bruises on her head from knocking into the slats through them. We haven't had a problem since switching to the regular ones, and she even ends up snuggled up between them and her blankey half of the time. Smile

  • Ian's a wild man too...and plays in there for a bit after he wakes up. He's all over the place.  It's not the he climbs on them, but he does lay on them, pulls on them, etc. And they're squished.  They weren't great quality so I don't know that they'll fluff back up.  Part of the problem, I think, is that several of the 'ties' have broke from him yanking on them and such.  So, just re-tying probably wouldn't help but I'll try.  I was just wondering if the breathable ones were more "sturdy" because in jldbubb's pic it looked like they were stanidng up pretty good.  I don't want to go buy more necessarily but I'd really rather not wake up to any more frantic cries like the other night.

I have the breathable ones but they're pretty much below the mattress now. I kind of stopped caring. ha

We use regular bumpers. I didn't buy a bedding set so I just got the Carter's bumper made out of the minky type fabric. It has held up well and was not expensive. The breathable kind wouldn't really work for us because he needs some cushion in addition to something to keep his limbs in.
  • We use the breathable ones. They are fairly sturdy and stay upright. But also will collapse if Abby were to step on it so it can't be used as a step. They definitely aren't as padded as the regular ones but do the job. Abby is all over her crib at night and likes to sleep in the corner.

  • I'm just looking for something to keep his arms and legs in...and them to not get stuck!  I may try weaving his bumpers in and out of the slats, maybe that'll keep them "up".

  • We use regular bumpers. Actually, shorter than normal ones. No reason, they're just the ones we liked. Since Lauren will be in a crib for a while yet I think we're going to get her some new ones that are a bit sturdier. She can push these ones down and has gotten her legs stuck a few times.

  • The breathable one stays in place pretty well. Eli doesn't try to climb out of his crib so it's not really a problem for us.

  • Ian doesn't try to climb either, it's just that he's all over the bed, lays on the bumpers, squishes them down.  I don't know. I guess I'll try weaving it in every few slats first to see if that helps.  If not, I'll try something else.  I just don't want to spend too much money on something when he won't be in his crib forever, but he'll be in there long enough for me to not wanting him getting stuck.  And it was a one time thing, it hasn't happened before and may never happen again.  We'll see.

  • We use a regular bumper. I have to constantly readjust it (pull and tug, not usually retie) to get it to stay up, especially on the side that she messes with the most. I mostly use the bumper because she's been known to sleep with her head right up against the rail/bumper, we haven't had issues with limbs getting stuck, although maybe that's due to the bumper. :)
