Developmental activities

What games or activities can I do with LO that will help develop skills like sitting, hand eye coordination, verbal skills, etc.  We do a lot of playing, but I want to make sure I'm taking advantage of my time with her and playing smart. Anyone know of specific activities I can do with her that will help build skills--physical and verbal?

Re: Developmental activities

  • I have the same question about the physical skills, but I feel that I'm doing fine on verbal.

FWIW I read to DD and sing to her (she loves abc's) and she'll start "talking" with me or "singing" with me. I read to her whatever I am reading, I recite nursery rhymes that I can remember (she likes this little piggy). I'll add children's books with pictures soon. Because she is mimicking me I know its helping her.

For physical we do short tummy times periodically, I try to show and hand her toys and the mirror (so far she ignores them). I try to touch her hands when we talk. but I don't know of any games for physical development and I wish that I did.

  • For physical, you can do more tummy time, mix it up with "airplane" where you hold LO next to you face down.  We hold up a tin pie plate for target practice with her feet, which she likes.  Various toy dangling for hand-eye.
