"Down Came the Rain", by Brooke Shields. Just finished it and it was really good. It will make you cry at times because it will remind you of your own current or past struggles with PPD. She is very real and inspiring in the book. She talks about being in some really dark places, but proves to you and I...we do get better and get out of this alive, with the proper professional help.
You can't help if you get PPD and you can't be ashamed if you do have it. You are not a bad mother! Speak up...ask for help! "Depression is a very self absorbing affliction, and when you are in it, it is so overwhelming that it's hard to think of anybody else." Brooke Shields.
Totally normal and this line hit me in the book like a ton of bricks. However, something brightened my day...an old children's song that I've never been able to look at in another way.
This is us..."Down came the rain and washed the spider out. Out came the sun and dried up all the rain, and the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again."
We will get through this and the sun will come out again for us to eventually be our old, but better self.
Hugs mommas!

Re: Good Read PPD Moms...
Yea, he is obviously an idiot who has never personally dealt with a mental illness or has had a family member deal with one. Like you said...he doesn't even have a clue..not an ounce!
I really enjoyed the book a lot! It makes you feel like you are not alone...even though you feel sooooooo alone and that nobody gets it. People do get it though...we just don't speak up about it enough. We also have people like Tom Cruise who is an idiot about it too!
Hope you enjoy it!
(I found it on Amazon for a pretty cheap price)

An idiot for sure. Never been a fan of him and he sealed it with that! It does make you feel alone, but good to know we're not. I was such a mess when I was in the hospital right after DD was born. It was pretty amazing to me how many of my nurses had battled ppd. I think it helped to talk to them and also helped my husband to hear what they had to say. It is really hard for him to understand so it is good for him to hear it from other people too.
Thanks again for sharing!
