Feeding themselves?

At what age did you LO start feeding themself?

my little guy is four and a half months and gets really mad if i try to feed him his bottle, he smacks my hand away and holds it himself and i think he prefers it because he can pace himself better.

just wondering if this is typical or if i should not allow him to do it for some reason.

TIA!

Re: Feeding themselves?

  • DD tries, but she has a bad habit of letting her hand slip, and then she gets mad when the bottles falls out of her mouth, lol. I try to keep one hand on the bottle so it stays where it's supposed to, but just hold on to the end and that way she feels like she's doing it herself.

  • I think that's perfectly normal. DS started holding his own bottle around the same time. I just let him do it if he gets frustrated when I hold it. I wouldn't worry about it.

It really depends on the kid. DD has been holding her bottle about a month (not well but she holds it). DS was like 9 months old before he would. I BF for 6 months with both of them so they didn't get bottles all the time. That probably has something to do with it too.
