Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Not eating as much

My DD will be 8 months this Thursday the 16th and for the past couple weeks she will not eat a lot.  She is formula fed. She's gone down to a 4-5 oz bottle in the morning and a 5-6 oz bottle before bed.  And in between she'll only eat two 4 oz bottles during the day so she gets about 15-19 oz all day.  So that's why she doesn't usually sleep through the night and wakes up hungry 1-2 times a night and eats 4 oz.  Is this normal?  She seems more interested in food but she will sometimes refuse it even if it's been about 3 hours since her last feeding.  My normal routine is around 8-8:30 4-5 oz bottle (lately has only been taking 4) followed by 2 tbs of oatmeal with 2 oz of formula mixed with some apples.  Then sometime in the afternoon she'll get a 1st or 2nd foods container of fruit and around 6 same thing but a vegetable.  And I give her formula in between and sometimes she'll only have 2-3 oz and sometimes 4 oz. Has anyone else gone through this? She is crawling and more active and wants to play alot and constantly move.  Help would be appreciated!

I have no advice, but am anxious for the answers.  DS will be 8 mos. tomorrow and we are going through the same thing.  He would normaly take 6 oz. formula every 3 hrs.  Now it's :  7:30-4 oz.;  8:30-3 tbs. oatmeal 1 piece toast; 11:30-4 oz; 12:30-2.5-6 oz. baby food (vegetable/meat); 4:30-4oz.; 8:00-6 oz. & 2-1/2 tbs rice cereal.  He just started theis the past 2 wks.  He was always 3 hrs. 6 oz. plus food 1 hour after bottle (2.5 oz container).  So I'm curious...

  • DS is the same way.  He's gone from 4-5 6oz bottles to less than 20oz a day, and he never finishes a bottle during one feeding.  He does STTN so I haven't been pushing more formula.  When he wakes up he'll only drink 2-3oz.

  • DD is BF but def not eating nearly as much either and is waking up at night to feed...I think its a combo of teeth and the excitement of mobility...at least in our case.  Also I have to feed her in my bed or shield her vision b/c she is distracted by everything!

  • Glad to know I'm not the only one!  She is a very curious baby & gets distracted easily.  I'm gonna call her Dr. about it in a week if it doesn't get better.  But she is teething so I'm sure it's a mixture of that and moving all the time.  Thanks!
