Kombucha/synergy

Anybody continued to drink kombucha and synergy while pregnant?

Re: Kombucha/synergy

  • I wouldn't drink it just because there is a small amount of alcohol in it.

  • Fellow Kombucha lover, eh?  :)  Isn't that stuff the best EVER?!  Synergy is my favorite brand too...Cosmic Cranberry is amaaaaazing!

I was advised that as long as I was drinking it regularly prior to pregnancy that it was fine to continue drinking it.  I also did some reading and came to the same conclusion on my own.  Google is a wonderful resource for this type of subject!

From everything I have gathered, alcohol is a non issue with this...it is the raw bacteria that is the issue.  If you already have established the probiotic strains in your body, it is safe to continue drinking it.

     Good luck!!

  • I haven't b/c i've bought many in the past that are overly "active", and since it's raw and i don't know *what* is overly active about it, it makes me nervous.  After the baby is here, though, i'll be all over it (actually, i'll probably opt for the classics, but still... mmm)!

Yep, this is what my acupuncturist said. I've had a few, more recently than in the first tri.

  • Yep! I might avoid a home brewed kombucha during pregnancy (depending on your confidence in the product) but I've had store-bought kombucha a few times. (The alcohol content is really not very high. I share with my toddler.)

  • I have drunk it since I drank it before pregnancy. My only concern is off loading toxins into my body since it can detox you, but since I've been making it and drinking it for about a year, I have no problems drinking it in pregnancy or when nursing.

The alcohol level is very, very small.  I ferment mine on the shorter time span, so it's not overly sour, and I prefer mine sweeter. If I ever buy it, I buy the sweeter variety (Guava Goodness) as it tastes closest to my home brew.
