If you have a Diono Radian convertible seat

If you have a Diono Radian seat, which model do you have?  What kind of car? Where is the seat installed?

What do you like/dislike about it?  Did you wish you had gotten a different seat instead?

Re: If you have a Diono Radian convertible seat

  • I have the most basic, though I wish I would have gotten the one with headwings because my son likes to sleep in the car. His head slumps down when he falls asleep. I drive a mid sized SUV. The radian is installed behind the passenger seat with an angle adjuster. It takes up a ton of room rearfacing, front to back. But I am still comfortable in the passenger seat, my husband less so.

I love how slim it is, I can seat passengers next to the carseat. My 2.5 year old can easily climb in and out of it. It is difficult to install in my car which is why my husband hates it.

I just got a chicco nextfit which I also love. So easy to install and it takes up less space from front to back when rearfacing. It is also wider, so now I'm going to have a more difficult time putting an adult in the backseat, but I think I can still do it. Because the sides of the seat are so tall, I think it will be more difficult for a toddler to climb into the seat by themselves.

I have to RXT.  I love this car seat.  It lasts forever.  My five and a half year old still has room to grow, but we turned her forward facing in February.  She still has about an inch and five more pounds to go before she is out.  We are now using it for the two year old we have custody of.  We did just get a Foonf, for the 2 year old, but it was a gift.  I love my RXT and would not go with a foonf, unless the child is extremely large.  The price is not worth it to me.  Most kids grow out of it by height, not weight and it has the same height limit of 43 inches, just a different weight.
  • I have the r120. I have it installed rf center position in a 2012 ford focus car. It works there without the angle adjuster. I would need an angle adjuster if I wanted to install in the outboard positions rf.

I love the seat. It is very heavy though so I am probably not going to travel with it.

I chose the r120 over the rxt because I wanted to use it as long as possible there may come a time when the kid is too talk for the seat not because of the straps but due to shoulders hitting the head wings.

My tall 2.5 year old is still rear facing in his Radian r120 and has plenty of room. We will be able to rear face for a while longer which is why I love the seat. Compared to the other erf seats, I love the low profile of the Radian. Especially since I have a baby, I love that my 2yo can climb in and out of his seat without my help (except to buckle and unbuckle him). I also love that Radian offers the angle adjuster to add more room when your child is ready to sit more upright.

I drive a Mazda CX7 which is a crossover but is known for having a small back seat. I am 5'9 and can sit in the passenger seat just fine (the Radian with the angle adjuster is behind the passenger seat) but my 6'2 husband is uncomfortable. My husband drives a Nissan Altima and a 6'2+ person can sit in the passenger seat just fine.

  • Another reason to love the radian in smaller car you can fit 3 across or if you have 1 seat in the middle, adult passengers can still fit next to the car seat.

  • We've got the RXT installed in a Chevy HHR in the passenger side backseat.  It fits in there but very snugly.  Unfortunately, DD doesn't care too much for it as of yet (she prefers her Chicco carrier/carseat) but she's barely 3 months, so we took it out of the car and are presently using the carrier in both cars.  I don't regret the purchase but I do wish that I had waited to purchase it, since it is not being used right now.

  • We have a R120 in a Honda Fit behind the passenger seat (rear-facing).

I like it. It's slim and E seems really comfortable in it. We also got a great deal and we will be using it for so long!

  • We purchased the RXT and just transitioned a couple of weeks ago.

DD is super comfortable in it. We have it installed RF on the passenger side of a 2012 explorer. The seat has to be moved quite a bit forward. I am 5'7" and it's a tight squeeze for me to sit in the passenger front seat. DD is still young though, and I am looking forward to being able to use the angle adjuster when she is about a year old.

The car seat is heavy and I found it difficult to install (FTM though- I have nothing to compare it to except her infant seat, which I didn't install). That said, now that it is installed, I love it, and DD loves it. I love knowing that she is safe and that we *crossed fingers* won't have to purchase any additional car seats besides this one. My backseat is a 60/40 split with the carseat on the 40 part, and I also love that since the car seat is fairly narrow I can still put down the 60 part to load things in the back and allow people to access the third row.
