High-Risk Pregnancy

Anyone had a Placenta Accreta before?

Looking for people's Placenta Accreta Stories.

My first DD was delivered via c-section due to being breech.  2nd DD had Placenta Accreta, delivered at 35 weeks.  She was a success Accreta story as they knew about it and I was monitored very closley.

We really want to have one more baby (last one).  We always wanted 3 children.  But with having a Placenta Accreta before, i'm very likley to have another one.

Any stories out there with people who had an Accreta and then had another child?

I don't know anyone who has had subsequent births w accreta. Mainly because they've had to have emergency hysterectomies. Have you talked to an OB about the risk v benefits? I know there is a huge risk of maternal hemorrhage and fetal perfusion issues. I don't know if I would risk it.

  • i was prepared to have a hystrecotmy but was able to not have to.

The high risk doctor says 'why not, try again!' where my regular OB says "I wouldn't".

So i dont' know...I have very mixed feelings about it.

  • I had accreta with my twins, but it went undiagnosed until after I delivered both babies vaginally.  I barely avoided a hysterectomy, but I had a moderate hemorrhage while they were manually removing the placentas after delivery AND a pretty major hemorrhage 3 weeks later.  My OB said she sees no reason for us to avoid having more children.  BUT we're 75% sure we aren't going to risk it.

  • I had a minor accreta with my first child.  The OB had to manually remove small pieces of adhered placenta from my uterus, along with shots of Methergine to help stop the bleeding.  I kept my Pitocin drip for several hours after delivery to help contract my uterus down as well.  None of it was diagnosed prenatally.  This time we are watching for it, especially as my placenta is anterior again, and I was warned that if the placenta implants in the same place the accreta occurred it increases the odds of it happening again.  I am seeing a perinatologist (for that among other reasons) who will do scans later in pregnancy checking for a repeat accreta.  Per my OB, if there is any unusual attachment they will do a c-section instead of a vaginal delivery.

  • I've had an accreta twice with my last 2 pregnancies. This is why after DS#3 I had my tubes tied, only to end up pregnant again.

With DS#2 I had a full placenta previa and a minor abruption. The accreta was not discovered until after delivery. He was born at 38 weeks, I was on bedrest fom 30-38 weeks. With DS#3 I also had a full previa and a accreta that was discovered on ultrasound at 20 weeks. My placenta was fully attached to my previous c-section scars, this was determined at 32 weeks via MRI. I ultimately had a full abruption at 35 weeks while in the hospital on bedrest. He was delivered via emergency c-section. During the c-section it was also discovered that my placenta had grown into my bladder and ovaries. My right tube was removed and my bladder was in bad shape as well. A urologist had to be called in to assist in the surgery when this was discovered. I dodged have a complete hysterotomy (sp?) nor did I need the blood transfusion they have prepped for, I was very, very lucky. Accreta's are very dangerous as you already know. Although, I had wanted more children I had my other tube tied via laproscopic tubal ligation when DS#3 was 6 weeks old. I am now 9 weeks pregnant with #5, I guess God had other plans but I am really scared of how this will all turn out.
