Pack N Play / Rock N Play and Cradle N Swing - so many choices!

I am FTM and trying to figure out which one of these I need. I definitely can't afford to buy all 3.

I am planning on having the LO sleep in the PNP (the one with bassinet attachment) in our room for the first few months.

Is RNP necessary? My friend swore by Cradle N Swing. Which one in addition to PNP would you sugest I get?

  • Hi, I personally went for the rock n play instead of the pack n play. I also went for the snuggabunny cradle n swing which has been a life saver so far for naps and stuff!

  • I would ditch the Pack N Play and get the Rock N Play.  My daughter never enjoyed playing in or sleeping in the Pack N Play, although we did use the diaper changer for a few months.  She LOVED the Rock N Play and slept in it exclusively for naps and overnights the first six months.  She also was happy to just hang out in it when I needed to set her down for a few minutes during the day to attend to laundry etc.  Plus it was very handy for overnight trips to relatives (easy to fold and pack up and gave her the consistency of sleeping in the same bed even when in a different environment).  I can't say enough how much I loved the Rock N Play.  I think the Pack N Play ended up being kind of a waste of money.

my only concern is the overnight sleep in the RNP. Also, PNP seems something they could play in/sleep in for longer then the RNP.

I have five kids, and have never used a rock n play, but have used a pack n play.  My oldest slept in one for the first few months.

I use a Mamaroo bouncy seat.  We actually have two and a cradle swing snugabunny.

The PNP has the longest life. I would start with that and if you find you need something else after the baby comes, you can make that decision then. The PNP is great for traveling up to 2ish years (weight limit is usually around 30lb), makes a great place to safely put a mobile baby when you need to leave the room, and makes an awesome ball pit!

You can only use the RNP for 4-6mo usually. My kid didn't like the RNP and I really hated it when he was a newborn because it caused chin to chest for him.

Swing is a thing that some kids love and some don't. My first son loved it my second didn't really care for it. Maybe you can wait and try one out with your LO before buying one.

  • My LO went straight into his crib and we used a moses basket for naps.  I had a pack and play--we used it for a make shift gate for a while and that was it, my son and I never really liked it.
