Sick = no shots?

My little guy is congested and coughing again had we are supposed to have our 4 month check up tomorrow. I talked with the nurse today, and she said to come in at our scheduled time but he may not be able to get his shots. If this has happened to you, how long we're you made to wait? A certain length of time? Or until it's all cleared up?

    We went last week and were sent home because he was 100.1. I had no clue. No other symptoms. We rescheduled for a week later.

  • Personally I'd wait. The fever and pain after shots last time seemed awful and he was miserable. Use your best judgement. The nurse wants to do what's best per text not what you need for your baby. Waiting an extra day or two wont hurt him if you think he needs it. My dr won't allow shots when they have a fever or are showing signs of illness already.
    Good luck!

    Thanks we will definitely wait. I was just curious how long others have waited but I will find out what they recommend soon enough. I do not want him to feel any worse than he does and based on the 2 month shots, we should definitely wait. Luckily we don't have a fever but he has all the congestion crud again. Poor baby. He's sleeping great though. That's good for mommy and daddy.

  • I'm not sure if it's because you're more likely to get sick from the shot or because your white blood cell count is up when you're fighting an infection that the shot might be less effective. I know I couldn't start my rabies vaccine a few weeks ago when I thought I was sick.
  • at her 3.5 month she was so terribly congested, but no fever....still got her shots though.....was crankier than her 2month shots, but not as bad as her 1 month...she was still a little congested at her 4.5 month but they gave her shots then too

    My DD was congested and had developed an ear infection at her 4 month appointment, but she didn't have a fever so she had her shots.  Fever is the only firm rule with my pedi where shots will have to be rescheduled. DD took it like a champ, and had no side effects. The doctor did offer to do the shots 2 weeks later since I have to bring her back to have a check up for the ear infection.

    DS was congested at his 2 month shots...but no fever so we were good to go. Like PP said, it's just if they have a fever. GL!
