Third-Party Reproduction

Hello

Hello ladies, how's it going? I am a active poster on IF and IFV and have been for quite a while now. My history is in my siggy but in a nut shell Im annovulatory and have a craptastic uterus that won't build a lining. We are taking a break for the summer and when we get back to treatments after a August vacation we will be using a surrogate. A family member on DH side has volunteered and I'm taking her up on her offer. I plan on meeting with her either this week or the next to let her know I would like to go forward with her being our surrogate and give her time to discuss with her DH. We have two frosties left that I pray will finally give us our baby. DH is not comfortable with using a surrogate and doesn't understand how one carries and births a child and then walks away or doesn't want some kind of visitation with the child. He is willing to put his uneasy feelings aside to give us a chance at a child. He is being very understanding and I love him more for it. I'm very thankful to have him. I hope my talk with her goes well next week. Are there any ladies here in a similar situation as me? Well thanks for reading ladies, I look forward to getting to know you.

Re: Hello

  • Hey You! Sorry you find yourself here :( - however, happy to hear you have a willing surrogate! How exciting to have an option for your two frozen embies.

The only thing I'd throw out there is to find out what requirements your clinic may have for surrogates that she may have to "pass" before you can move forward. They'll want to test her husband for certain STDs for example; and likely she'll have to do a mock cycle to ensure her lining responds to protocol, etc. before the FET. It'll help if you can give her all that info when you talk so she is clear on expectations.

I know there are some surrogates on the board, so they may be able to speak to the 'walking away from a baby' aspect. There are also a lot of surrogates who keep blogs, video blogs on YouTube, etc. that might be interesting. Most of what I read is that they just simply never think of the child as their own, that they are a caretaker for a period of time, not a mom to that baby.

Best of luck to you - I'm likely doing my FET now in mid/late July - so perhaps we'll be expecting our LO's around the same time!

  • Hi Crystal! I'm excited to hear that you have found a surrogate and that you are changing gears, as scary as I know it is. I really want you to be able to have the take home baby(ies) that you dream of and I pray this is the path to that for you. Hugs and WELCOME!
