Babies: 9 - 12 Months

9 months and not crawling

My little guy turns 9 months tomorrow, and I feel as if he is behind compared to other babies his age. He's mastered going from sitting position to his tummy (pretty much flops down), scoots himself in circles and rolls. Since he's been 6 months he pushes off with toes when he tries to reach for toys. At his 6 mth appointment my doc thought since he was starting to do that, crawling would soon be following...but still not crawling. He also loves to stand next to furniture and bounce his legs. Should I be worried, or am I just being paranoid??

Re: 9 months and not crawling

  • some babies don't crawl. It is not considered a milestone by many doctors anymore.

  • my DS didn't start crawling until the day he turned ten months... he showed NO sign of crawling and then woke up one morning and did it.

i was super paranoid too... i think it is a mommy thing. :)

  • Sounds just like DS.  He did finally start crawling about 3 weeks ago at 11 months.  Try not to worry.

My DD did not start crawling until she was 10.5 months. It is hard not to compare your child to what other children are doing. She would get in the crawl position for months and was doing some army crawling at times. Enjoy that you do not have to worry about where your DS is crawling to! One DD started crawling she would rush for the stairs.
  • DS did a couple days before 10 months...I was really anxious for him to crawl but not worried because doc said not a milestone, read so much about it on here, etc.  It will come!

  • My DD is 9 1/2 months and when we put her on her stomach/crawl position she hangs her head and sobs.  However, if you stand her up she'll walk anywhere with assistance and hold on to things.  I wouldn't worry about it!  Keep offering the crawl and or stand position and see what happens.  He'll be fine!
