Working Moms

thinking of a big change

I've been working at the same company for nearly 20 years.  This winter the company was bought out and with new ownership came several undesirable changes for me.

My hours are longer than they used to be.  The primary position I work is one that I used to provide support/coverage for and my previous primary position is one that I still have 100% responsibility for but far less time to dedicate to it.  The new owner has hired more staff but there is a level of chaos on a nearly daily basis.  My closest co-worker commented last week that work just wasn't much fun anymore.  I agree.  I like my new boss (direct manager), he is skilled and has the right attitude about things but overall I have to admit, I'm pretty miserable since the change.

However, the pay is very decent.  The hours, while longer, are still in the realm of normal.  My commute is 10ish minutes.  I'm very good at what I do.  And opportunities in this area are few.

We don't need my paycheque, exactly.  I need my paycheque.  So not working is not an option for me.  But making a change may well not bring me any more satisfaction and almost certainly will bring me less money.

Ugh.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am

  • I would probably give it some time to let the dust settle and see how you feel in a while. How is communication there? Can you express your concerns?
