NBOTBR...Kindle Fires

I want to get my husband a Kindle Fire for Father's Day (the gadget and technology board on the nest is way slow), but I don't know which one to get him....I'm torn between the original, the HD, and the HD 8.9" screen. I don't know which one he'd rather have because it's really a personally preference of which size screen (the bigger one would take up more space, but you would have a bigger screen, and the smaller one vice versa).

His sister has the original, and she likes it, but I'm wondering if the HD ones are actually that much better, especially the bigger screen.

TIA

    Me too!

I can't tell you which one to go with, but I can say that DH has a kindle fire, the original, and loves it. Great gift!

Mind if I ask why you're planning on a Kindle Fire instead of an iPad or other android tablet?  The Fire is limited in terms of the apps it can run.
  • I honestly got bored of the kindle fire, and switched to the ipad mini. I love it! Though, there is no reason to go for something that expensive unless it's what he wants. There are a lot of good tablets out there that are more affordable, and just as good. My mom has my kindle fire now, and likes it for reading, email, web browsing, etc.. but it is limited compared to other options.. so it really depends on what he would want to do with it. I call the Kindle Fire a "starter tablet" techies will get bored.. Happy Shopping!
  • Though, I really can't diss the Kindle Fire. It is really nice for what it is. So if you'll think he'll like it, get it for sure :)
  • Get the HD.

I actually prefer my fire over my iPad. But I do a lot of reading. Ds likes both but I can control more on his fire kid time than the iPad and his apps are a lot cheaper.
  • I have the original Kindle Fire. I absolutely love mine and use it for everything. I love that it is smaller so that I can take it with me when I go places that I know I will have to wait for a bit. I would recommend getting the HD, because from what I have seen on commercials, it seems that it has some updates from the original that would be nice, ex. being able to set a time limit for how long someone can use it.

  • I have the original fire and love it. If he would want something bigger, then I would get the bigger one. To me, the only difference and deciding factor would be which size he would prefer. Mine was a gift from DH and I lurve it so much!

  • I have 2 original Fires. I like them. I can not tell the difference in HD (tv) in my living room, and regular cable in my bedroom, so I am sure I wouldn't be able to tell on a screen that small.

I'm sure either one would be fine.

  • I have a Nexus 7. Its an android based device with Google chrome (which I now cannot live without). I downloaded the kindle, nook and Google play apps and use the kindle app the most. Its the best decision I've made as far as technology goes.

  • My husband and I have both an original Kindle Fire and an HD one (the 7" screen size). I have the original one and I love it because it feels smaller to me than the HD. My husband on the other hand loves his HD because he thinks it is less boxy than the original. It does have contoured sides unlike the original Fire, but that isn't a necessity for me. In addition, the HD has a camera, the original does not. The picture is also slightly better on the HD, but unless you plan on watching a bunch of movies/streaming videos, I don't think it makes much of a difference.
