Almost impossible to sleep without a soother

My almost 9 week old daughter is almost impossible to put down without a soother it seems. Last week she was going through this awful sucking phase, where all she wanted to do was suck. We took some advice and introduced a soother at bed time to help her get to sleep, the problem is that now it seems as if she won't go down without one. Not even for her naps. Any advice on how to remove the soother from the equation or at least reduce her dependency on it?

  • We did this with DS when he was 4 months old and it took 1 night to get rid of the paci

We are in the same boat. LO is 9 weeks yesterday and because of his dependency on the pacifier, he can't get past the first 45 minute sleep cycle since the pacifier will have fallen out by then. We do get a 3 or 4 hour stretch when he first goes down for the night, but the rest of the night and naps are 45 minutes before we have to go stick it back in his mouth, unless he's in his swing, in which case I can get longer naps.

I seriously hate it. But I figure he's still so young, he obviously needs the suck feeling to soothe, and when he's old enough, probably 4 months like the previous poster, then I am fully prepared to do what it takes to wean. I just think he's too young. But it really sucks.
  • She's only 9 weeks - it's okay for her to use a soother for night and naps at this point. Whatever works!

wow that looks awesome! I'll have to remember this for when DS is older.

Our issue now is that he doesn't need one for nighttime (thank goodness) but does for naps and losing it will wake him up from a nap (but not at night). Hmmm I'll give this a try for naps maybe and see how things go.
