Durable medical equipment supplier

Well my insurance changes their coverage last month on breast pumps and will now cover a Medela double electric! I called in March and the would only cover a hand pump so I'm so gladi followed up. Now the problem.... I have to find a durable medical equipment supplier that will bill BCBS directly. I have called several places listed on Medelas website and no one will bill insurance directly. Did any of you ladies have to go this route for your pump? If so where were you able to purchase from? Maybe an online supplier?

My BCBS uses Edgepark Medical and Byram Healthcare.

I have Anthem and was told to try these two as well.

  • Thanks ladies, looks like we have a Byram Healthcare here in Dallas. I went ahead and sent them an email to see if they fit my insurance guidelines FX they do!!

  • Have you tried approaching it the other way around? I mean calling BCBS to ask them to give you a list of local suppliers that accept your insurance plan. That is how I did it. Then I started calling the suppliers to see if they had the Madela double electric in stock. It was leg work but I now have my pump! I don't have BCBS though.
  • Ya I talked to BCBS they sent me to the Medela site to find suppliers then was told to call the suppliers to see if they were contracted with BCBS. They can't make this easy can they?!?!

Any of you know which Medela pump Byram has?

Ditto on both accounts. OP I don't know your due date bc I'm mobile, but I can't order until 5/26 because I'm due 6/26.

  • I would call BCBS back and ask them to provide you with a list of local suppliers, then call the suppliers to find out what they have. That seems like a lot of work for you to be doing. I have Aetna and they gave me three, I just called/checked out websites etc to get the information about the products they had available.

Note: I don't know how BCBS works, Aetna requires a prescription from your doc to acquire the pump pre-delivery. It wasn't a big deal to do, but because all the local suppliers are having shortage of stock issues around here (supposedly because of ACA) I wanted to order pre-delivery. Just got an email I should have mine tomorrow!
